     This week in the Iowa House we voted to advance multiple pieces of legislation that aim to address Iowa’s current childcare crisis. I am particularly familiar with this issue due to the fact that several of these bills passed through my Ways and Means committee prior to coming to the floor. The recent pandemic has exposed the importance of accessible affordable quality childcare here in Iowa. Access to affordable childcare is an issue many of us heard about repeatedly on the campaign trail and it has been a priority of the Governor’s for several years.

     I recently read a press release from Senator Ernst, “Don’t mess with the WOTUS Rule” (1.27.2021). The gist of the release is Senator Ernst desires to not have the WOTUS rules reinstated after President Trump relinquished implementation for most of the WOTUS rules. The WOTUS rules impose many restrictions on farmers’ use of land in an effort to regulate water from the farmland.

     On Feb. 2, the U.S. House of Representatives Impeachment Managers filed a 77-page Trial Memorandum Brief in support of the impeachment of Donald Trump. To read the brief, simply Google: “house judiciary impeachment brief.”

     I would implore all to read the brief and, if time permits, some of the 293 footnotes. After doing so, I think that you will find the facts of the case and legal arguments overwhelmingly document that the Senate has jurisdiction to try the impeachment and convict Donald Trump.

Three Reasons to Have Soup for Supper

     1. People who eat more soup usually have a healthier diet. An Iowa State University study found that soup-eaters consume less fat and more fiber and vitamins than non-soup-eaters. This is probably because most soups contain a variety of vegetables.
