To the editor,

Comedian George Carlin asked, “What do dogs do on their day off? They
can’t just lie around, that’s their job.”

The Supreme Court has rejected Ghislaine Maxwell’s challenge to her
criminal conviction for recruiting and grooming teenage girls for sexual
abuse by Jeffrey Epstein. Good for the court. They did the right, common
sense thing. They did their job. Most of us don’t expect a pat on the back
for doing what we’re minimally paid to do.

As a child of the only living God from scripture, it’s an honor to serve my
Lord and Savior. By believing in the sacrifice of His only son Jesus (John
3:16), His resurrection on the third day (Luke 24:46), then Jesus’ ascension
into Heaven (Luke 24:51), I know I’ll spend eternity in glory with Jesus.

Did you know Oct. 24th –31st is International Bat Week? 

Although bats are a common sight in Halloween decorations this time of year, they are not something we usually encounter outdoors in Iowa during late October. Most bats have already migrated or tucked themselves away to hibernate and survive the cold months ahead. Bat Week is a perfect time to celebrate and learn about the importance of these small, secretive mammals.

County’s voting machines undergo rigorous prep prior to Election Day

Voting equipment is being prepped ahead of the upcoming 2025 city/school board elections. 

Voting systems are required to be used in Iowa for each election as specified in Iowa Code Chapter 52. There is an exception to this, as stated in Iowa Code Section 49.26, but this exception is rarely used as it violates the federal Help American Vote Act, which requires counties to provide the option of an electronic ballot marking device for disabled voters.
