     A one-vehicle accident took place on Dec. 10 at 8:16 p.m. Larry Michael Holub, 45, of Coggon, was driving a 2006 Ford F250 on County Road D-62 when he lost control. The road was covered with snow, causing Holub’s vehicle to cross the roadway as he entered the ditch. His vehicle then struck a tree on private property.  According to the accident report, Holub was driving too fast for the road conditions. The report also states that Holub left the scene of the accident and did not report the accident to law enforcement.

District Court

     Rachel Lynn McDermott, Dubuque, pleaded guilty to OWI. She was fined $1,250 plus court costs, and sentenced to two days in jail.

     William Charles Burton, Anamosa, pleaded guilty to carrying weapons and OWI 1st offense. He was ordered to pay civil penalties totally $1,875 plus court costs.

     Gauge Leon Linne, Anamosa, pleaded not guilty to sex offender residency violation 1st offense. A jury trial is set for Feb. 7.

Magistrate Court

     Michael James Richards, Cedar Rapids, pleaded guilty to no seatbelt. He was fined $57.50 plus court costs.

     Spencer Thomas Hinrichsen, Anamosa, was found guilty of speeding. He was fined $40 plus court costs.

     Brooke Desiree Mull, Anamosa, pleaded guilty to no insurance. She was fined $150 plus court costs.

     Miranda Jean Klenk, Cedar Rapids, pleaded guilty to speeding. She was fined $140 plus court costs.

     Humberto Padilla Varela, Monticello, pleaded guilty to speeding. He was fined $20 plus court costs.

Police Report

Dec. 5

     10:57 a.m. – Police responded to a complaint on the 300 block of W. Grand St.

     12:14 p.m. – Police assisted the EMS at 104 N. Maple St.

     12:40 p.m. – Police provided a public assist on the 600 block of Hillcrest Dr.

     12:45 p.m. – Police assisted the EMS at 15264 Hollywood Rd.

Sheriff Report

     A one-vehicle accident took place on Dec. 4 at 8:50 a.m. on Highway 151. Delbert J. Loop, 69, of Monticello was driving a 2002 Ford truck when he began to merge onto the highway northbound from Highway 64. Loop lost control on snow and ice and hit the guardrail head on. No injuries were reported. Loop’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,000 in damages.

     Due to continued technical issues that are beyond the control of the Clerk of Court’s Office at the Jones County Courthouse in Anamosa, the Monticello Express was unable to access electronic files again last week and documents containing information for this week’s court news. The County Sheriff and Monticello Police reports are e-mailed to us separately from the online documents.

     We will plan to publish three week’s worth of District, Magistrate and Courthouse Briefs in our Dec. 14 issue.

     9:11 a.m. – Police assisted the EMS at 426 S. Sycamore St.

     10:10 a.m. – Police assisted the EMS at 207 First St.

     8:50 p.m. – Police responded to a disturbance in the 100 block of E. First St.

      A car versus deer accident took place on Nov. 27 at 5:33 p.m. on Highway 151. Jeffrey William Butler, 29, of West Des Moines, was driving a 2005 Mazda Tribute when he came into contact with a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Butler’s vehicle sustained approximately $7,000 in damages.
