After being in the movies, on TV, on Broadway and innumerable community plays, it’s astounding to realize Neil Simon’s, a Samuel French publication, is only a stone’s throw away to watch on Starlighters II stage. Onlookers can watch the “come what may” Oscar, portrayed by Collin McDonnell, and Felix, with all the marital problems, played by Kevin Sims, develop into an oddball relationship.

You top that off with five card players, certainly never described as peas in a pod. Darby Washington wears Murray’s policeman’s cap as one of the guys keeping watch over some of the weird situations.

Oscar’s accountant, Roy, in an unkempt card-playing room, drives Terry Tesar to distraction.

Speed’s character gives Gerald Morrison opportunities to complain and fire things up.

Gary Barnett plays up the role of Vinnie who rests his jaw as others get into the fray.

The two British sisters who live upstairs have the “giggles” in common as well as being close in age. Alyssa Kemp-Priest portrays Cecily Pigeon, divorced and willing to listen to both sides. Denise Whitmore assumes the role of Gwendolyn Pigeon, employed as a secretary.

You’ll express your thanks to Director Basilio Light and Assistant Kathryn Williams for any twists and turns which may surprise you and turn that frown upside down.

What a way to relax and laugh after the Easter celebrations! Remind yourself now’s the time to save the dates: Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22, with evening performances at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 23, matinee at 2 p.m. The same schedule follows on April 28-30.

The Box Office opens on Monday, April 10 at 319-462-4793. You can also go online at starlighters.org.
