‘Arab’ letter could apply to Germans many years ago

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

In reading the Letter to the Editor from Stephen J. Intlekofer (that appeared in the Sept. 1, 2021, issues of the Express), I thought that what was written about Arabs would almost fully apply to the German immigrants who settled in Iowa in the 19th Century. In substituting “German” for “Arab,” this is what would have been written many years ago: “German culture is way different from Western culture. Germans don’t assimilate. They congregate.”
