As I traveled Eastern Iowa during the August Recess, I hear the frustration of many on the inability of Congress to pass legislation. I know perception is often reality but the facts are the U.S. House has been incredibly productive since the President was sworn in. In fact, Pew Research said that to date the 115th Congress is “among the most productive in recent years” after analyzing the amount of substantive legislation passed over recent years. The House has passed over 350 pieces of legislation, and, unlike some in Washington, we have focused on the issues that I believe Americans care most about: growing the economy, reforming health care, strengthening our military, securing the border, and draining the federal swamp.

Growing the Economy

     • Voted to overhaul Dodd-Frank, a stifling piece of legislation that was holding small businesses and innovators back from growing and creating more jobs.

     • Along with the Trump Administration, we have repealed 860 job-killing
regulations.

Reforming Healthcare

     • Kept our promise to the American people to provide relief to those suffering under Obamacare by passing the American Health Care Act of 2017.

Strengthening Our Military

     • We passed the largest pay raise for our nation’s military in years and made much needed reforms in the Pentagon’s purchasing process that will save taxpayers money and make the Pentagon more efficient.

Securing Our Border

     • Passed Kate’s Law and the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act on the same day, with the goal of removing violent criminals off our streets, and ending the subsidization of cities that refuse to comply with federal immigration laws with your tax dollars.

Draining the Swamp

     • Made real progress on draining the swamp of bureaucracy and incompetence in D.C. by passing substantial reforms to the VA through the VA Accountability Act.
