4-H NEWS 1-20-21

Prairie Hill

     The December Drive-Through Meeting of the Prairie 4-H Club was held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, at the Youth Development Center parking lot. Members were asked to create a poster to answer the roll call question of “What is your favored Christmas activity or tradition?” First place in the poster contest went to Lincoln Schneiter and second place was won by Keegan and Kylee McElmeel.

     Kylee McElmeel made a motion to approve the secretary’s report and the treasurer’s report and bills. Lily Moestchen seconded the motion. The treasurer’s Report, secretary’s report, and bills were approved by members by writing their vote on their signs. Motion carried.

     Prairie Hill Club Officers passed out 27 gift bags to members in recognition of their achievements in the prior year.

Scotch Grove Challengers

     The January meeting of the Scotch Grove Challengers was called to order by President Katie Roher at 6:00 pm on Jan. 10, 2021, via Zoom. Roll Call topic: Favorite Winter Break Activity. Thirteen members and one leader were present. Katie Roher led the Pledge to the American Flag.

     Aedan Althoff gave the secretary’s report, Davin Wickman made the motion to approve the secretary’s report, seconded by Alyssa Wickman, motion carried. Kacie Rickels gave the treasurer’s report. Davin Wickman made the motion to approve the treasurer’s report, seconded by Steven Bader, motion carried.

     Old business: The Iowa 4-H Foundation Scholarships are due Feb. 1. Pioneer Seed Grants for 4-H Clubs are due Jan. 30, First-year 4-H members will have until May 15 to enroll online.

     New business: Kids that Cook is a virtual cooking series. Registrations are due on Jan. 22 or until filled. There is an Outdoor Adventure Camp in DeWitt. Market Beef animal data must be entered into 4hOnline 2.0 by Feb. 1. For Special Interest Club, you can find out more on Jan. 14 via Zoom.      Davin Wickman made the motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Kacie Rickels, motion carried. The pledge to the 4-H flag was led by Davin Wickman. The meeting ended at 6:15.

Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020 at the Jones County Youth Development Center.

     The meeting was called to order at 6:45 p.m. by President Elizabeth Riniker.  Brooklyn Stark led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call was – “What emoji are you?” It was answered by 13 members. There were four leaders, and three guests present. Secretary’s report was given by Gracie Henderson. It was approved by Maisie Paulsen and seconded by Ava Capron.  Treasurer’s report was given by Trista DeShaw. It was approved by Brooklyn Stark and seconded by Nichelle Kirby.  

New Business: Election of officers was held and our new officers include:  President – Elizabeth Riniker, Vice President – Brooklyn Stark, Secretary – Gracie Henderson, Treasurer – Trista DeShaw, Reporter – Maisie Paulsen, Historian - Nichelle Kirby, Photographers – Nichelle Kirby, and Activities Director – Natalie Henderson and Lauren Oltmanns. The monthly meeting calendar was changed due to not meeting normal time/date. Lauren Oltmanns moved to approve this and it was seconded by Hailey Henderson. The By-Laws were approved by Grace Lubben and seconded by Ava Capron. The budget was approved by new member Kayla Arduser and seconded by Kyle Arduser.

     The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Maisie Paulsen.

Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020 through Zoom.

     President Elizabeth Riniker called the meeting to order at 1:02 p.m.  Maisie Paulsen led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call was – “What is your favorite fall pastime?” It was answered by 10 members. There were four leaders present. Secretary’s report was not given. Treasurer’s report was given and approved. Brooklyn Stark moved to approve the treasurer’s report and Maisie Paulsen seconded it; it passed by majority vote. 

New Business: The county 4-H staff is holding a county-wide chat each month for 4-H youth, leader, etc. to ask questions, get other important deadlines and other important information. 

     The meeting was adjourned at 1:40 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Grace Lubben.

Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020 through Zoom.

     The meeting was called to order at 1 p.m. by Elizabeth Riniker. Maisie Paulsen led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call was – “What is your favorite holiday candy? How do you eat your candy cane?” It was answered by 12 members. Five leaders were present. Secretary’s report was given. Maisie Paulsen moved to approve the secretary’s report and it was seconded by Lauren Oltmanns; it passed by majority vote. Treasurer’s report was given. Gracie Henderson moved to approve the Treasurer’s report and Kyle Arduser seconded it; it passed by majority vote. Bills were presented. Grace Lubben moved to approve payment of bills and Kayla Arduser seconded it; the motion passed by majority vote. 

Old Business: Thank you to the members for completing the Enrollment, Medical, and Code of Ethics. Awards Day has been postponed for the time being. There were eleven cookie platters distributed through our community to show our appreciation to businesses that contribute to the 4-H program in Jones County throughout the year. These businesses were the Monticello Express, Jones County Farm Bureau, River Valley, Inc, Commander Buildings, Above and Beyond, Wolken Dental Services, Jake’s Custom Applicating, Fidelity Bank and Trust in Anamosa and Monticello, F&M Bank, Cascade Sale Barn, and Jerry White and Family.

     New Business: 4-H Legislative Day is scheduled for February 17, 2021. It will be done virtually this year. The meeting was adjourned at 1:28 p.m. by Elizabeth Riniker with the 4-H Pledge being led by Nichelle Kirby .
