Prairie  Hill

   The November meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club was held on Monday, Nov. 21, 2022 at the Youth Development Center. The meeting was called to order at 6:22 p.m. by Leah Koehler, President. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Roth Schnoor. The roll call question of “What is your favorite winter sport?” was answered by 29 members. Five visitors were present.

   The Secretary Report was read by Secretary Mace Schnoor. Harper Russell made a motion to approve the minutes. Tucker Rahe seconded the motion. Motion carried. The Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer Lorelei Rieken. Adley Rahe made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report.  Roth Schnoor seconded the motion. Motion carried.

   President Leah Koehler thanked members of the club for donating items to her “Birthday Cake Box” project for the food pantry.

   Members were reminded that they need to enroll in 4-H Online 2.0 prior to Dec. 31.

   Leader Nicole Moestchen reported the results of the Edgewood Locker Meat Fundraiser. Lincoln Schneiter and Madilynn and Emma Kromminga earned top sales award prizes.

   Multiple members shared their fun experience playing 4-H Volleyball in Anamosa and especially winning first place in the junior tournament.  Participants were congratulated.

   Club members who earned awards at the 4-H Awards event on Sunday, Nov. 20 were recognized and congratulated. The Market Beef Weigh-In will be on December 17, 2022 at the Cascade Sale Barn.

   A livestock and YQCA training will be held Jan. 19, 2023 at the Lawrence Center in Anamosa. More details will be provided at a later date including how to register.

   The 2022-2023 Prairie Hill Club Bylaws were reviewed.

   Details were finalized for the December Prairie Hill 4-H Club holiday party to be held on Dec. 19.

   Presentations were given by Tucker Rahe on “How to Filet a Fish” and Adley Rahe on “Preparing Dairy Heifers to Show at the Fair.”

   Recreation Leader Lake Schnoor led the club in a fun candy and plastic wrap game.

   A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Kylee McElmeel and seconded by Luke Leytem. The meeting concluded with the Pledge to the 4-H Flag led by Rynn Schnoor. Refreshments provided by Tucker and Adley Rahe were enjoyed following the meeting.

Jones County Central

   The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022 at the Youth Development Center.

   The meeting was called to order at 6:51 p.m. by President Grant Lubben. Nichelle Kirby led the Pledge of Allegiance. The Secretary’s Report was not given. The Treasurer’s Report was not given. Roll call was : “What is your favorite candy at Halloween, and overall what is Iowa’s top candy at Halloween?” It was answered by five members. There were four leaders and four guests present.

   Old business: The following members had projects at the state fair: Nichelle Kirby and Lauren Oltmans. All projects received blue ribbons. The secretary’s book, treasurer’s book, historian’s book and reporter’s award need to be handed into the Extension office for evaluation. Record books need to be turned in as soon as possible.

   New business: Election of officers was held, and our new officers include: President – Grant Lubben. Co-Vice Presidents – Hailey Henderson and Natalie Henderson. Secretary/Reporter – Nichelle Kirby. Treasurer – Lauren Oltmans. Photographer – Allison Shover. Activities Director – Leah Oltmanns.

   The monthly meeting calendar was voted on to designate times and dates for the club meeting, because they did not meet the normal designated date and/or time. It was moved by Lauren Oltmanns and seconded by Nichelle Kirby to approve the monthly meeting calendar. It passed by majority vote. The club by-laws need to be approved and handed in to the Extension office. It was moved by Allison Shover and seconded by Leah Oltmanns to approve the by-laws. It passed by majority vote.

   The club budget is a list of our major activities and cost for the 4-H year, with estimated amount based on last year’s cost, so this needs to be voted on and seconded. It was moved by Leah Oltmanns and seconded by Allison Shover. It passed by majority vote. National 4-H Week is Oct. 2-8. Celebrate by wearing your 4-H shirt, and the Extension office is hosting a five-day challenge for 4-H members and their clubs.

   A 4-H 101 Workshop will be held Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Youth Development Center. Awards day is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 20, 12:30 p.m. at the Youth Development Center. The Enrollment, Medical, and Code of Ethics forms need to be completed online through 4-HOnline by Dec. 1 or before, to be eligible to show at the Great Jones County Fair.

   It was moved by Nichelle Kirby and seconded by Lauren Oltmanns to participate in the Share-‘N’-Care program. It passed by majority vote. A family will be assigned to our club shortly. One day will be set aside to give the majority of the presentations, during the March meeting. Beef weigh-in is scheduled for Dec. 17 at the Cascade Sale Barn.

   The meeting was adjourned at 7:22 p.m., with the 4-H Pledge led by Lauren Oltmanns.
