Jones County Central

     The regular meeting of the Jones County Central 4-H Club was held Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021 at the Jones County Youth Development Center.

     The meeting was called to order by Co-President’s Gracie Henderson and Trista DeShaw at 6:46 p.m. with Halle Recker leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The roll call was: “What is your favorite color and disliked color?” It was answered by 13 members. Thirteen members, three leaders and four guests were present.

     The Secretary’s Minutes were given. There were no additions or corrections to the Secretary’s Minutes as presented. Hearing no corrections, the Secretary Minutes were approved as presented. The Treasurer’s Report was given. There were no additions or corrections to the Treasurer’s Report as presented. Hearing no corrections, the Treasurer’s Report were approved as presented.

     Old Business: National 4-H Week – Did anyone participate in any of the county wide activities? No one responded.

     New Business: Community Service: Cookie Appreciation Platters – Every family needs to bring a dozen cooke/bars (can be bought or baked) to the next meeting (party), so we can assemble the platters for local businesses that support 4-H throughout the year. Which businesses would we like to have platters delivered to:  Anamosa Vet Clinic, Monticello Vet Clinic, Cascade Sale Barn, Citizens State Bank, Fidelity Bank & Trust (Anamosa and Monticello) Jones County Extension Office, Monticello Express, Brian Meyer and staff, Doug Fairbanks Family, and Dan and Judy Lubben and family.

     Christmas Tree Walk – we will be participating in this. Nichelle Kirby moved and Kyle Arduser seconded to participate in the Senior Shut-in gift giving. It passed by majority vote. Donations to Hospitals – We discussed if we wanted to do what we did last year – donate Christmas cards, tie-blankets, videos/DVDs, books/games/cards to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and Clinics and Blank Children’s Hospital, and Shriners Children’s Hospital in Chicago. Lauren Oltmanns moved to donate to these hospitals and Ava Capron seconded it. It passed by majority vote.

     Christmas STAR Program: Natalie Henderson motioned and Hailey Henderson seconded to buy a toy, an outfit, and hat and gloves for each child in the chosen family along with cleaning, food, and an essential basket for the family. It passed by majority vote. Jones County Food Pantry is in need of items this holiday season. A list will be provided at Thanksgiving time. It was moved by Nichelle Kirby and seconded by Ava Capron to participate in the Food Pantry collection. It passed by majority vote. Monticello and Anamosa Care Center Gift Bags – It was decided to fund them with supplies that are needed instead of doing gift bags.  Leaders will check into this.

     Officer Training – this is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022. Beef weigh-in is scheduled for Dec. 18 at the Cascade Sale Barn from 8 to 11:30 a.m. They are asking for county fair animals to come 8 to 10 a.m. and State Fair animals to come 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Awards Day is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 9, starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Jones County Youth Development Center.

     Club members participated in an Animal Game Show Activity.

The 4-H pledge was led by Hailey Henderson. Co-Presidents Gracie Henderson and Trista DeShaw adjourned the meeting at 7:32 p.m.
