Oxford Happy Hustlers

     The regular meeting of the Oxford Happy Hustlers was held on Aug. 6, 2017 at 6 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. There were three members, two leaders, and two guests present. The host of the meeting was Sara Flores. The meeting was called to order by president Morgan Strait. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Nicole Guenther. Roll call was: “What extra-curricular activities are you taking part in this school year?” It was answered by three members. The secretary’s report was given by Nicole Guenther and the treasurer’s report by Morgan Strait. A bill was presented for membership fees. The motion to pay the bill was made by Nicole Guenther and seconded by Sara Flores, motion carried. There was no correspondence. Committee reports were given by Nicole Guenther and Morgan Strait on livestock shows, and by all members on the Fourth of July Cake Walk, working at the food stand, and evaluation day at the fair.

     In old business, record books are due to leader Connie Burhop before school starts on Aug. 26. The secretary book, historian book, treasurer book, and reporter award applications are also due on Aug. 26. Treasurer and secretary books can be picked up from leader Connie Burhop on Thursday, Aug. 10.

     In new business, invite new members to the September meeting. When filling out record books, members are to use premium values from the previous years. The booth evaluation sheet was discussed. Aug. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Tipton pool will be the swim party with the Oxford Livewires.

     The 4-H Pledge was led by Sara Flores. The next meeting will be Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. The motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Sara Flores and seconded by Nicole Guenther.

Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017 at the Lawrence Community Center.

     The meeting was called to order at 3:09 p.m. by president Elizabeth Creveling. Trista DeShaw led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was given and approved. Treasurer’s Report was given and approved. Roll call was: “Name your favorite dream career.” It was answered by 10 members. There were three leaders and four guests present.

     Old Business: All members present reported on how they did at the Great Jones County Fair. Our club had many projects considered for the state fair. In addition, Maisie Paulsen won the Sweepstakes Award in the Food and Nutrition category. Members also provided written feedback on the pros and cons of the fair. State 4-H conference – Elizabeth Creveling reported that she attended and had a great time while participating in workshops and other activities.

     New Business: The Iowa State Fair will be August 10-20, and it was asked which members would be going to the fair, either to visit or show. All record books are recommended to be handed in at the October meeting unless you are applying for an award; then they need to be to a leader by Aug. 29. All record book forms and information will be found at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/jones/4h.

     The secretary’s book, treasurer’s book and historian’s book are due into the Extension Office by Aug. 31. Also, anyone who wants to try for an award in an area must have been enrolled and completed that project for a total of three years. The leaders reported that there will be several record book workshops offered. Members are asked to come up with fundraiser ideas.

     There will be no September meeting. The next scheduled meeting is Sunday, October 1; this will also be the election of officers.

     The meeting was adjourned at 4:13 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Zabrina Kirby.
