Prairie Hill

     The regular meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club was held at the Citizens State Bank Youth Development Center on Oct. 9, 2017.

     The meeting was called to order at 6:16 p.m. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Cole Adams.

     The secretary’s report was given. Motion to approve the secretary’s report was made by Brianna Adams, seconded by Cole Adams.

     Old business: Members of the club were recognized for completing a record book and turning it in for the prior year. Savannah Freese was accidentally omitted from the list last month. Twenty members donated 26 books to the Little Lending Library outside the Youth Development Center. New officers were elected for the 2017-18 4-H year, as follows: Caleb Hogan, president; Austin Timm, vice president; Bella Mullen, secretary; Jabezz Husmann, treasurer; Lauren Koehler, historian; and Brooklyn Stark, reporter/photographer. Members signed up to be members of the Recreation Committee. Online enrollment is open. All members must complete, sign and date a Code of Ethics form.

     New business included the Harry Potter 4-H Club, Adopt-A-Pot, the Panther Key Fob Fundraiser, Review of Prairie Hill Rules and Expectations, 4-H Make A Difference Day Oct. 28, 4-H Volleyball is scheduled for Nov. 11 at Monticello Middle School, 4-H Awards Day is Nov. 12, Market Beef Weigh-in Dates are Dec. 23 at Kirkwood Community College from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and Dec. 30 at the Cascade Livestock Barn from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Officers and new members were installed.

     Giving presentations were Valerie Cupples, Cole Nietert and Cord Nietert. The next meeting will be Nov. 20 at 6:15 p.m.

     Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Dawson Ricklefs, seconded by Cole Adams. The Pledge to the 4-H Flag was led by Lydia Ahlrichs.

Scotch Grove

Challengers – October

    The Oct. 1, 2017 meeting of the Scotch Grove Challengers was held at the Monticello Renaissance Center in Monticello.

     President Tommy Dirks called the meeting to order at 4:08 p.m. Ten members answered the roll call topic: “What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?” Steven Bader led the Pledge of Allegiance. Will Wolken read the secretary’s report. There were no additions or corrections. Autry Fasnacht made the motion to approve the secretary’s report and Matthew Beal seconded. Motion carried. Sally Hinrichsen provided the treasurer’s report. Kristin Roher motioned to approve the treasurer’s report and Matthew Beal seconded.  Motion carried.

     Old business: Members discussed helping at the Camp Courageous haunted house on Oct. 26 and sign up with Autry.

     New business: Members discussed helping at the 4-H open house on Oct. 5.

     Members were reminded to order club T-shirts and sign up for volleyball.

     On Nov. 5, members will help with a wedding clean up and the November meeting will be after clean up. A motion was made to order pizza following the meeting and all approved.

     Other fundraising ideas and projects were discussed, including Edgewood locker sales or Casey’s donut cards.

     Autry Fasnacht made the motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Steven Bader.  The Pledge to the 4-H flag was led by Will Wolken. The meeting ended at 4:37 p.m.

     Royce Kirburz gave his presentation on the difference between lions and mountain lions.

Scotch Grove

Challengers – September

     The Sept. 10, 2017 meeting of the Scotch Grove Challengers was held at the Monticello Renaissance Center in Monticello.

     Tommy Dirks called the meeting to order.  Members answered the roll call topic: Favorite Fall Activity. Pledge to the American flag was led by Joseph Schrader.

     Joseph Schrader read the Secretary’s Report. There was no additions or corrections. Matt Beal made the motion to approve, seconded by Royce Kiburz.  Motion carried.

     Matt Beal read the Treasurer’s Report.  Autry Fasnacht made the motion to approve, seconded by Matt Beal.  Motion carried.

     We welcomed new members to our 4-H club.

     We elected new officers as follows: President: Tommy Dirks, Vice President: Kristen Roher, Secretary: Will Wolken, Reporter: Dori Paddock, Treasurers: Kacie Rickels and Ashlynn Sparks, Photographer: Haili Schlarmann, Historian: Kinzi Schlarmann, Activity Coordinators: Joseph Schrader, Matt Beal and Autry Fasnacht.

     Old Business: Members signed up for which month they wanted to do their Club Presentation.

     Members were reminded to send thank-yous to the donor of any trophy they received.

     New business: Make-A-Difference Day in October was discussed. Camp Courageous will be doing the Haunted House again this year and are looking for spookers. See Autry for more details and to volunteer.

     Enrollment started September 1st, be sure to enroll early.

     The club was asked to do a wedding cleanup on Nov. 5 and club agreed to hold our meeting immediately following the cleanup.

     Activity Coordinators will be making plans for the Holiday party in November.

     Members in 9-12 grades were encouraged to join the 4-H Teen Council.

     Autry Fasnacht made the motion to adjourn, Royce Kiburz seconded. Motion carried. Pledge to the 4-H Flag was led by Matt Beal.

Scotch Grove

Challengers – August

     The Aug. 6, 2017 meeting of the Scotch Grove Challengers was held at the Monticello Renaissance Center in Monticello.

     Tommy Dirks called the meeting to order. Members answered the roll call topic: Memory or highlight of the 2017 Jones County Fair. Pledge to the American flag was led by Joseph Schrader.

     Joseph Schrader read the Secretary’s Report. There was no additions or corrections. Davin Wickman made the motion to approve, seconded by Matt Beal. Motion carried.

     Matt Beal read the Treasurer’s Report, with outstanding payments of fair premiums. Davin Wickman made the motion to approve, seconded by Cooper Wickman. Motion carried.

     New Business: Election of Officers will be held at the September meeting.

     Members discussed club meeting dates that conflicted with holidays to determine when to hold the meetings.

     Members decided to have presentations at every meeting.

     Members discussed having setting a deadline to order Club T-shirts and to place the order as a group.  Will follow up at the October meeting.

     Extension Office was hosting record book work sessions for all members to complete their record books.
