Scotch Grove Challengers

     The Jan. 8, 2017 meeting of the Scotch Grove Challengers was held at Monticello Renaissance Center in Monticello. Twenty members (1 new member was welcomed) answered the roll call topic: “Your favorite Winter Break Activity.” Joseph Schrader led the Pledge of Allegiance. The club started with a 4-H questionnaire activity. Joseph Schrader read the Secretary’s Report. Davin Wickman made a motion to approve the Secretary’s Report. Matthew Beal seconded. Matthew Beal read the Treasurer’s Report. Davin Wickman moved to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Ty Jesenovec seconded.

     New Business: Discussed FSQA changes in 2017, reminder that (re-) Enrollment needs to be done online. The club also discussed fundraising ideas and decided to sell Casey’s pizza cards. More details will be presented at the next meeting. Members were encouraged to “like” the club Facebook page for announcements. A sign-up sheet was provided for members to sign-up for presentations at future meetings.

     The Wickman family provided the snack. Davin Wickman made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Steven Bader. The Pledge to the 4-H flag was led by Davin Wickman. Ty Jesenovec  & Will Wolken did their presentations.

Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at the Lawrence Community Center in Anamosa.

     The meeting was called to order at 6:46 p.m. by president Elizabeth Creveling. Sierra Lief led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was given and approved. Treasurer’s Report was given and approved. Roll call was – “What is your favorite winter pastime?”  It was answered by 17 members. There were four leaders and seven guests present.

     Old Business was: Beef Weigh-In – It was reported on by Kaden Kiburz, Grace Lubben, Kirklen Kiburz, Natalie Henderson, and Sierra Lief. The Community Service Project/Christmas Tree Walk was discussed and the canned and paper items were donated for distribution to the needy. The Community Service Project/Christmas STAR Program-HACAP was very appreciative of our club participation in this program. Several thank-you notes from the hospitals, cookie platter recipients, and Pat Lubben for cleaning her yard were shared. Enrollment, Code of Ethics, and Medical Forms – please get these in as soon as possible. If you are not in, you will not receive the necessary emails and paperwork from the Extension Office. Elizabeth Creveling and Autumn Kirby reported on the Calving Workshop.

     New Business was: The Edgewood Locker Fundraiser – Information and packets will be handed out at next month’s meeting. Please plan to attend or have someone pick up the packet for you. We will sell in the month of February, gather the packets at the March meeting, with delivery in April. Club by-laws were handed out to leaders, members, and parents so everyone can read through our club expectations, plus the county expectations. Motion was given by Zabrina Kirby and seconded by Elizabeth Riniker to approve the by-laws. Motion was approved. There will be a Bread Making and Baking Workshop at the Bean Farm as well as Midland High School. The Plunge into 4-H Retreat is scheduled for Jan. 27-28 at Pictured Rocks Camp for grades 4-6. Cost is $40 and sign up is online. FSQA/YQCA is going to a new quality assurance program starting March 1. There will be no testing for 2017 due to this change. The new dates for training are Feb. 20 (9:30 a.m.), May 10 (6:30 p.m.), and June 15 (6:30 p.m.). These workshops will be held at the Youth Development Center. T-shirt design was discussed and decided that members should bring ideas to the next meeting. Leader Ben Dirks reported on and online “adulting” class that may be of interest to young adults on learning every day household tasks such as how to do laundry or cook.

     Reminder to all members and parents to read the 4-H online emails that come as many event details are sent out between our monthly meetings.

     The meeting was adjourned at 7:19 p.m. The 4-H Pledge was led by Sierra Lief. The next meeting will be Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017 at 4 p.m. at the Lawrence Community Center.
