4-H NEWS 3-29-23

Prairie Hill

   The March meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club was called to order at 6:18 p.m. by President Leah Koehler on Monday, March 20, 2023 at the Youth Development Center (YDC) in Monticello.

   The pledge to the American Flag was led by Roth Schnoor. The roll call was answered by 28 members.  Four guests and five leaders were present.

   Secretary Mace Schnoor read his report from the February meeting.  Eli Moestchen made a motion to approve the minutes.  Meghan Besler seconded the motion. Motion carried.

   The Treasurer’s Report was read by Treasurer Lorelei Rieken. Rynn Schnoor made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Tucker Rahe seconded the motion. Motion carried. There were no bills.

   Old Business: In-person YQCA training will be held on April 20 at the YDC in Monticello. Members can register for the event in 4-H Online.

   Master Gardeners are hosting a horticulture workshop on March 30 at the YDC. There will be a guest speaker and horticulture rules for the 2023 Fair will be discussed.

   Registration for 4-H Junior Camp at Io-Dis-E-Ca is open in 4-H Online.  The camp will be June 4-6 in Solon.

   New Business: Roth Schnoor made a motion for Prairie Hill 4-H Club to schedule a workshop to make beds for Sleep In Heavenly Peace. Harper Russell seconded the motion. Motion carried. Members will be notified when a date and time are finalized.

   Lake Schoor and Mace Schnoor shared their experiences at last year’s Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, and encouraged eligible members to attend this year. The Animal Science Roundup, held concurrently with the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference on June 27-29, was also discussed.

   Swine Weigh In is on April 1 and Sheep/Goat Weigh In is on April 29. Both are at the Jones County Fairgrounds.

   Presentations were given by Meghan Besler on “Friendship Bracelets,” Grant Gassman gave a presentation about “Sturgeon,” and Kinley Gassman gave a presentation about “Giraffes.”

   The next Prairie Hill 4-H Club meeting will be held on Monday, April 17 at the YDC. Hosts will be Lincoln Schneiter, Harper Russell and Roslynne Russ.

   A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Roth Schnoor and seconded by Rynn Schnoor. The meeting concluded with the Pledge to the 4-H Flag, led by Mace Schnoor.
