Prairie Hill

     The March meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club was held on Monday, March 21, 2022 at the Youth Development Center.

     The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m. by Taylor Gassman, President. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Harper Russell. The roll call question of “Where would you like to go on vacation?” was answered by 29 members. Four visitors were present.

     The January Secretary’s Report was read by Kinley Gassman. Roth Schnoor made a motion to approve the minutes. John Leytem seconded the motion. Motion carried.

     The Treasurer’s Report was given by Mace Schnoor. Dawson Ricklefs made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Tucker Rahe seconded the motion. Motion carried.

     Members completed “The Marshmallow Challenge” by competing to build the tallest freestanding structure out of three feet of string and tape, 20 strands of spaghetti and one marshmallow. Team creations were measured, and winners were determined.

     There is still time for members to sign up to attend Junior Summer Camp in Solon and the Night at the Omaha Zoo Trip. Sign up and additional trip details were provided.

     Experienced members of the club explained Youth for the Quality Care of Animals and that certifications are due by July 1 and that training is available on a new website.

     The Derby Swine Weigh-In will be on April 2 at 8:30 a.m. at the Great Jones County Fairgrounds. The Sheep and Goat Weigh-In will be on April 30 at the Great Jones County Fairgrounds.

     Lily Moestchen made a motion to Donate to the Count Your Clovers Campaign to Support 4-H’ers for 4-H. Eli Moestchen seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

     Prairie Hill 4-H Club will be making beds for Sleep in Heavenly Peace as a community service project.

     The next meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club will be on Monday, April 18 at 6:15pm in the Meeting Room at the Youth Development Center.

     Taylor Gassman gave a presentation entitled “Why Sleep is Good for You.” Grant Gassman gave a presentation about “Sizes of Countries on Maps.” Kinley Gassman gave a presentation about “Rhino Facts.”

     A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Lorelei Rieken and seconded by Emily Leytem. The meeting concluded with the Pledge to the 4-H Flag led by Harper Russell. Refreshments were enjoyed following the meeting, provided by Meghan Besler, and Taylor, Grant and Kinley Gassman.
