Olin 4-H Club

     The Olin 4H Club held its monthly meeting on June 3, 2018.

     We met at the Grant Wood Trail entrance and did community service work by weeding and planting flowers in the planters that we take care of in town. At our meeting, we turned in our fundraising money. We congratulated Drew Uthoff on being chosen to go to the Iowa State Fair with his presentation he gave on Communication Day. Reminders were given on the workshops that were coming up in June.

     Nanci Null from the Iowa State Extension office came and told us about helping out every Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Olin Library. There will be maintaining of gardens, taste testing and other activities. Food that is grown in the garden will be given to the Mobile Food Bank. Presentations were given by Seth Bixler on Snicker Apple Salad, Curtis Lyon on DIY Crockpot Candles and Kaillen Bailey on Slime. Next meeting will be Sunday, July 1.

Oxford Happy Hustlers

     The regular meeting of the Oxford Happy Hustlers was held June 5, 2018 at 6 p.m. at Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church.

     Meeting was called to order by president Nicole Guenther. Roll Call was: “Do you have any summer plans?” All members answered. Four members and two guests were present. Committee reports were given on county Clothing Event, county Communications Day, and County Share the Fun. We also discussed the Sunday pancake Breakfast.

     Old business – 4-H fair booth and conference judging will be July 16 at 2:15 p.m. The club also did a cookie plate activity.

     New Business – Food stand schedule for Tuesday and Saturday of the Great Jones County Fair, livestock cat and other animal forms are due July 1, Fourth of July cake walk, and upcoming important dates were discussed.

     Motion to adjourn the meeting was by Morgan Strait and second by Alexis Payne. Presentations were Morgan Strait on Hidden Dangers, Lillian Strait on Dogs, Dogs, Dogs and Repurposing Clothes; and Alexis Payne on Choosing Accessories, and Service Dog, Therapy Dog, and ESA.

     The next meeting will be July 1 at 1 p.m. Host will be Alexis Payne. Each member is to wear their 4-H shirt.
