Jones County Central-May

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the Jones County Youth Development Center.

     The meeting was called to order at 6:44 p.m. by Grace Lubben. Elizabeth Riniker led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was not given. Treasurer’s Report was given and it was moved by Kirklen Kiburz to approve the report. It was seconded by Elizabeth Riniker and passed by majority vote. Roll call was – “Name something that can be found in a first aid kit.” It was answered by 18 members. There were three leaders and seven guests present. Elizabeth Riniker moved to donate $100 to the Lawrence Community Center. Koree Miller seconded it and it passed by majority vote.

     Old Business: Swine/Goat/Sheep weigh-in – Elizabeth Riniker, Autumn Kirby, and Zabrina Kirby said that it took a long time to weigh in.

     New Business: YQCA – The 4-H program is going to a new quality of assurance program starting in January 2018. There will be no face-to-face meeting this year; everything will be done online. The YQCA is only good for one year and will cost $12 to take. A letter was sent out from the Extension Office on this new change to the rules this year. May 15 Deadline – All forms are due to the Extension Office by May 15. Make sure to get your paperwork filled out and sent in on time, as no one wants to be left out of being able to exhibit at the county fair. Communication and clothing event- Someone in the club must do this in order for us to be eligible to play basketball and volleyball next year. Communication and clothing forms are available through the Extension Office. Iowa 4-H Conference – this will be June 26-28 at Iowa State University Campus. Registration is all online this year and is due May 15. Poultry Pullorum Testing – This will be June 16 at the Jones County Fairgrounds, in the small animal building, from 8 a.m. to noon. This testing is for all birds except broilers. Broilers will be tested right before the fair. Keep your eyes open for those details at a later date. Fair Booth – We will be doing some type of “Home” theme tying in the Wizard of Oz.

     The meeting was adjourned at 7:42 p.m., with the 4-H Pledge being led by Grant Lubben.

     Presentations were given by Kirklen Kiburz and Kaden Kiburz – All About Welding. Marissa Recker and Karli Recker – Fair Wardrobe. Ali Braden – Tomahawk Throwing, and Lydia Recker and Halle Recker – How to Wash a White Heifer.

Jones County Central-June

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the Youth Jones County Youth Development Center.

     The meeting was called to order at 1:49 p.m. by Wesley Henderson. Grant Lubben led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was not given. Treasurer’s Report was given and it was moved by Natalie Henderson to approve the report. It was seconded by Gracie Henderson and passed by majority vote. Roll call was – “What is a fun summer activity your family does together?” It was answered by 17 members. There were five leaders and nine guests present.

     Old Business: May 15 Deadline – Thank you everyone for doing such a great job getting all your animal projects ID’d on the computer this year. FSQA/YQCA – This needs to be completed by July 1, so you can exhibit at the fair. The members that need to complete this are aware of it.

     New Business: July 1 – The following forms are due, no exceptions: Bucket/Bottle Calf written entries, Other Animal form, County Fair entry forms, Code of Ethics, Working Exhibit form, and State Fair Livestock & Horticulture entries are due. State Fair entries are being done online. If you have any questions on State Fair entries, please contact the Extension Office. Fair Packets – These were handed out to the members with the following items in them: parking pass, fair pass, and a reminder bookmark for important times that occur during the fair. Club booth – Need a school picture for the members and the leaders poster for the booth and then they will be turned over to the Historian’s book. The club booth will be decorated on Monday, July 16.  Conference judging – This is Monday, July 16 at the Berndes Center, with the booth being in the Jones County Youth Development Center. We are scheduled to start getting judged at 10:30 a.m. Please arrive around 9:45 a.m., so you can get checked in. Floor duty/foodstand duty – Our time slots are Tuesday, July 17, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Friday, July 20, 7 to 10 a.m., and Sunday, July 22, 1 to 4 p.m. Please sign up, but keep in mind when your animal projects show. T-Shirts – Anyone needing one please get a hold of Cinda Petrick. Remember, wear one whenever you are exhibiting. Club Tour – We went on our yearly Club Tour following the meeting and we visited the following places: Recker’s, Henderson’s, Lubben’s and Kirby’s, concluding at Miller’s. We saw a variety of livestock projects. Autumn Kirby and Zabrina Kirby will be attending State Conference and Animal Science Round- up.

     The meeting was adjourned at 2:13 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Zabrina Kirby.
