Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018 at the Lawrence Community  Center.

     The meeting was called to order at 3:14 p.m. by vice president Grace Lubben. Grant Lubben led the Pledge of Allegiance. The Secretary’s Report was not given. Treasurer’s Report was given and it was moved by Maisie Paulsen to approve the report. It was seconded by Grant Lubben and passed by majority vote. Roll call was – “What was your favorite project/exhibit that you took to the fair?” It was answered by nine members.                                  

     There were three leaders and five guests present.

     Old Business: Great Jones County Fair – every member commented on this and told how they did and what they enjoyed about the fair. State 4-H Conference – Autumn Kirby and Zabrina Kirby had a good time; they talked about the workshops they attended. Autumn Kirby attended the Animal Science Workshops and Zabrina Kirby attended workshops connected with the State Conference.

     New Business: Iowa State Fair – August 9-20. Those that are going reported on this as to what they were taking to the fair. Elizabeth Riniker is taking goats, Tabi Etten is taking an embroidery project, Maisie Paulsen is taking her $15 challenge clothing outfit, Zabrina Kirby is taking a visual arts mask, Autumn Kirby is taking a clothing selection and an animal science poster, and Koree Miller is taking a citizenship poster and a child development display. Iowa Living Healthy Challenge – Our club was able to achieve all 3,000 points. The 4-H program will be recognizing all the 1st place clubs (10 in the state) at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday, Aug. 11 between 2 and 3 p.m. Record Books – answering of questions. All record books are recommended to be handed in at the October meeting, unless you are applying for an award then they have to be to a leader by Aug. 27. All record book materials and information are found on https://www.extension.iastate.edu/jones/4h. Secretary’s book, Treasurer’s book, Historian’s book are due into the Extension office by Aug. 31. Also, anyone that wants to try for an award has to have their record book completed by Aug. 31st and to the Extension Office. To receive an award in an area, you must have been enrolled and completed that project for a total of three years. All books trying for an award need to be handed to a leader no later than August 27. If you are possibly up for the All-Around Exhibitor Award; you also need to hand in a record book to the leaders by the October meeting. September meeting – There is no September meeting. Our next meeting will be on Oct. 7.  Fundraiser ideas – Be thinking of this and bring ideas with you to the October meeting. Community Service – Be thinking of this and bring ideas with you to the October meeting for possible Betterment Clean-up activities. Aug. 26 – There will be a meeting to discuss the 2018 fair, which will be held at the Youth Development Center.

     The meeting was adjourned at 2:13 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Zabrina Kirby.
