Prairie Hill

     The December meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club was called to order at 6:16 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2018 at the Youth Development Center by Adele Hogan, president. The pledge to the American flag was led by Grace Cooksley. Roll call of “What is your favorite winter sport?” was answered by 30 members. Four leaders and seven guests attended.

     Lake Schnoor, treasurer, reported that there is $5,174.46 in the club’s checking account. Eian Weber made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Chloe Gray seconded the motion. Motion carried. There were no bills.

     Old Business: 2018-19 dues have been reduced to $20 per member. Refunds will be issued for those who overpaid.

     New Business: Linn County is having a rabbit exhibitor meeting on Jan. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Linn County Extension Office in Cedar Rapids. Rabbit breeds and show rules will be addressed.

     Holiday cards were signed, to be given to residents at the Monticello Care Center.

     There will be a all livestock workshop on Thursday, Dec. 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Youth Development Center. The morning will begin with a veterinary presentation and group discussion followed by lunch. Then there will be breakout sessions for specific species.

     All Iowa State Fair market beef animals must be weighed in and retinal imaged on Saturday, Dec. 22, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Kirkwood. Those showing market beef at county fair may attend a second weigh-in on Saturday, Dec. 29, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Cascade Livestock Auction.

     We will be having a  bowling party with pizza in January. The date and time will be determined later.

     Presentations were given by Courtney Thies and Bella Mullen on “Movie Night Mix.”

     The next 4-H meeting will be held on Monday, Jan. 14 at 6:15 p.m.

     A Christmas gift exchange activity completed the meeting.

     A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Cord Nietert and seconded by Lane Weber. Motion carried. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Claire Hogan.
