Prairie Hill

     The January meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club was called to order at 6:18 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2019 at the Youth Development Center by Adele Hogan, President. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Leah Koehler. Roll call of “What is your New Year Resolution?” was answered by 35 members. Five leaders and nine guests attended.

     Lake Schnoor, Treasurer, reported that there is $4,852.57 in the club’s checking account. Claire Hogan made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Landon Orcutt seconded the motion. Motion carried.  There were no bills.

     Old Business: Members gave reports on the Livestock Workshop and the Rabbit Exhibitor Meeting. Beef Exhibitors need to verify weigh-in information on 4-H Market Beef no later than Jan. 15.

     New Business: The Prairie Hill 4-H Club Bowling Party will be held on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 12:30 p.m. at Legacy Lanes, Monticello.

     Monday, Jan. 28, at 6:30 p.m. there is a Horticulture Program Meeting. This meeting will be held at the Jones County Extension Outreach office and is open to 4-H members and families. Workshops, a trip to Iowa State University, and Club Challenges will be discussed.

     Lauren Koehler and Adele Hogan will be delivering Valentines to Pennington Square as Prairie Hill’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Project. Claire Hogan made a motion for the approval of supplies.  Kendall Siebels seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

     Communications Day will be April 6.

     4-H Basketball Fun Day is March 2 at Midland High School.

     Sign up for the 4-H Legislative Trip if you want the chance to travel by bus with other 4-Hers to Des Moines for a tour of the State Capitol complex, visit with elected officials, and gain a greater understanding of our Iowa State government and learn about current issues.

     On Wednesday, Feb. 13, seventh through 12th grade 4-H members and friends are planning to visit the Iowa Supreme Court, Iowa Legislature and Capitol in Des Moines, have lunch with legislators and explore the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden.

     Plunge into winter with an overnight camp for fourth through sixth graders. 4-H members are encouraged to bring a friend and explore the great outdoors, learn outdoor survival skills and enjoy a winter campfire. Check in will be Saturday, Feb. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. Youth will stay overnight in cabins at Pictured Rocks Camp and Retreat in Monticello. Pickup will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17.

     Presentations were given by Landon Orcutt on “Differentials,” Carter Martin on “Moles,” Taylor Gassman on “Sugar Scrub,” Logan Moestchen on “First Aid,” and Lily Moestchen on “String Art.”

     The next 4-H meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 11 at 6:15 p.m.

     A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Claire Hogan and seconded by Valerie Cupples. Motion carried. The Pledge to the 4-H Flag was led by Madilynn Kromminga.
