Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019 at the Lawrence Community Center.

     Roll call was – “Name a 4-H activity that you enjoy doing.” It was answered by nineteen members. There were three leaders and eight guests present.

     The meeting was called to order at 1:40 p.m. by Vice President Marissa Recker. Ava Capron led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was given. It was moved by Lydia Recker and seconded by Elizabeth Riniker to approve the Secretary’s Report; it passed by majority. Treasurer’s Report was given and it was moved by Maisie Paulsen and seconded by Tabi Etten to approve the Treasurers Report. It passed by majority.

     Old Business: T-Shirts and Sweatshirts are on order. You will be notified as soon as they are in.

     New Business: Presentations – These will be given at the March meeting and everyone should give one, unless you have talked to a leader prior to the meeting. Fundraiser – Edgewood locker meat is being sold until March 3, and will be delivered April 13. Elizabeth Riniker moved to have the pickup date on April 13 and Ava Capron seconded it; it passed by majority vote. Plunge into 4-H Winter Retreat – This is an overnight camping experience for grades 4-6, which is being held Feb. 16 and 17 at Pictured Rocks, Monticello. Cost is $50; please register with the Extension Office by Feb. 5. 4-H legislative Trip- This is for anyone in grades 7-12 and will be held Feb. 13. Cost is $50; please register with the Extension Office by Feb. 5. YQCA – The 4-H program went to a new quality assurance program which began in January 2019. There will be no face-to-face meeting this year; everything will be done online. The YQCA is only good for one year and will cost $12 per member to take. If you have any questions, please direct them to Leader Becky Creveling or the Extension Office.

     4-H Basketball is scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd at the Midland Middle/High School with the senior (grades 9-12) games starting at 8:30 a.m. and junior (grades 4-8) games to follow. 4-H Clothing Event – this will be March 31. More information will be sent out via email. Entry forms are due March 5. 4-H Communication Day – this will be April 6. More information will be sent out via email. Entry forms are due March 5.

     It was announced at the meeting that the Horticulture meeting had been cancelled and that information was sent out to the leaders. It was also announced that there is a Livestock Quizathon in Ames on April 13.

     Halle Recker moved to adjourn the meeting and Hailey Henderson seconded it; it passed by majority vote. Reminder to members and parents; please stay up-to-date by reading 4-H online emails. The meeting was adjourned at 2:05 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Hailey Henderson.

     The members participated in making Valentines for Vets and a Personal Wellbeing game.

     The next meeting is scheduled for March 3 at 1 p.m. at the Youth Development Center.

Scotch Grove Challengers

     The meeting of the Scotch Grove Challengers was held Jan. 13, 2019 at the Renaissance Center in Monticello at 6 p.m.

     President Kristen Rohr called the meeting to order. Members answered the roll call topic: “Your Favorite Winter Break Activity.” Alyssa Wickman led the Pledge of Allegiance. Tom Dirks read the Secretary’s Report. Royce Kiburz made the motion to approve the Secretary’s Report and Davin Wickman seconded. Motion carried. Treasurer’s Report was given by Kacie Rickels. Royce Kiburz made the motion to approve the Treasurer's report and Tommy Dirks seconded. Motion carried.

     Old business: A holiday party update was given. Club checking account has been closed.

     New Business: It was approved to have Extension re-issue checks to members who did not cash their Fair Premium Check. The club discussed Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Meeting for the Horticulture Program and Theisen’s Grant is Jan. 28 at 6:30 p.m. Field Trip to the State Capital for grade 7-12 4-H’ers and friends will be Feb. 13; registration deadline is Feb. 5.

     Winter Plunge Camp for grade 4-6 4H’ers & friends will be on Feb. 16-17; registration deadline is Feb. 5. 4-H date change for Basketball Fun Day – March 2nat Midland High School – ask a friend to join you. Communication Day Date change is April 6. Members need to have 4-H t-shirt order forms turned in by April 1.

     Royce Kiburz made the motion to adjourn the meeting; David Wickman seconded. Cooper Wickman led the Pledge to the 4H Flag.  Tyler Soppe did a presentation on how to sign numbers 1 to 10 in sign language.

Scotch Grove Challengers

     The meeting of the Scotch Grove Challengers was held Feb. 10, 2019 at the Youth Development Center in Monticello Iowa.

     President Kristen Rohr called the meeting to order. Members answered the roll call topic: “What is your Favorite Pizza to Eat?” Pledge of Allegiance was led by Haili Schlarmann. The Secretary’s Report was given by Tate Jesenovec, Royce Kiburz made the motion to approve the Secretary’s Report, Tom Dirks seconded. Motion carried. Treasurer’s Report was given by Kacie Rickels, Royce Kiburz made the motion to approve the treasurer’s report, Tate Jesenovec seconded. Motion carried.

     New Business: 4-H members who participated in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of service shared that they went to the Monticello Nursing & Rehab and helped residents with a Valentine’s craft. Reminder of Communication Event April 6 and Clothing Event is March 31 – forms due by March 5. Reminder of 4-H Basketball Fun Day on March 2 at Midland High School. Rosters due by Feb. 5.

     Behind the Scenes Fashion Show is April 12 – registration forms due by March 1 – this is a bus trip to Ames. Date change – Derby Swine Weigh-in Day has been moved back one weekend is now scheduled for March 30. YQCA-any members that will be showing pigs, beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, goats, market rabbits and poultry need to complete this training by July 1.

     Royce Kiburz made the motion to adjourn meeting, Tate Jesenovec seconded. Pledge to 4-H Flag was led by Kinzi Schlarmann. Rylee Fleming did a presentation on Blue and Red Heelers.
