Prairie Hill

     The July meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club was called to order at 6:17 p.m. at the Youth Development Center in Monticello by Adele Hogan, President. The pledge to the American Flag was led by Dawson Ricklefs. Roll call of “Name something you learned in 4-H this year?” was answered by 31 members. Vice President Lauren Koehler read minutes from the June meeting. A motion to approve the Secretary’s Report was made by Bella Mullen and seconded by Kendall Siebels. Motion carried.

     Treasurer Lake Schnoor gave her report. There is $3,486 in the club checking account. A motion to approve the Treasurer’s report was made by Bella Mullen and seconded by Caleb Hogan. Motion carried. Leader Karla Koehler presented bills to be paid: $7.49 for microphone batteries and $60 for fair poultry trophies. Bella Mullen made a motion to pay the bills. Alex Jamison seconded the motion. Motion carried.

     In Old Business, Leader Nicole Moestchen informed the Club that food stand shifts had been filled. Jones County Fair cleanup and setup times were announced.

     In new business, Karla Koehler reviewed procedures for checking in FAST exhibits at the fair on July 22. Prairie Hill’s entry time is 9:45 a.m. Fair dress code, new photography label and record books were also discussed. Nicole Moestchen is planning the club’s second annual pool party. The date will be announced after the fair. Miranda Rieken gave a presentation about types of apples. Lorelei Rieken gave a presentation about the 50th year anniversary of the moon landing. Dane and Kendall Siebels gave a presentation about Maltese dogs. Those giving presentations also hosted the meeting.

     The next meeting of Prairie Hill 4-H Club will be held on Monday, Aug. 12 at 6:15 p.m. Hosting the meeting and giving presentations are Lauren and Leah Koehler and Grace Cooksley.

     A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Claire Hogan. Leah Koehler seconded the motion. Motion carried. The meeting concluded with the pledge to the 4-H flag.

Prairie Hill

     The August meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club was called to order at 6:21 p.m. Monday Aug. 12, 2019 at the Youth Development Center by Adele Hogan, president. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Leah Koehler. Role call of “What was your favorite thing about the Jones County Fair?” was answered by 23 members. An additional four leaders and six guests attended.

     Taylor Gassman, Secretary, read the July minutes. Jess Stadtmueller made a motion to approve the Secretary’s Report. Logan Moetschen seconded the motion. Motion carried.

     Lake Schnoor, Treasurer, reported that there is $3,419.07 in our checking account. Bills from the pool party to Karla Koehler for $85 and Nicole Moetschen for $145 were presented. Ian Taylor made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Dawson Ricklefs seconded the motion. Motion carried.

     Old Business: Record Books are due to a leader by August 25.

     New Business: Club officer training is Nov. 17 from 2-4 p.m. Volleyball Fun Day is Nov. 9. The 4-H Awards Day is Nov. 10. Record book help night is on Aug. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. County Council is open to all 10-12 graders. Applications are due by Friday, Aug. 30. Brunch club is available for 7-9 graders. Applications are due by Friday, Aug. 30. Fishing day camp is on Saturday Sept. 30, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

     Presentations were given by Grace Cooksley on Oreo Fluff, Leah Koehler on Rabies, and Lauren Koehler on Common Dairy Breeds.

     The next meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club will be on Monday Sept. 16, at 6:15 p.m.

     Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Dawson Ricklefs. It was seconded by Landon Orcutt. Motion carried. Pledge to the 4-H Flag was led by Carter Martin.

Scotch Grove Challengers

     The meeting of the Scotch Grove Challengers was held at the Monticello Renaissance Center in Monticello on Aug. 4, 2019.

     President Kristen Roher called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m. Thirteen members answered the roll call topic, “Tell us one exhibit you did at the fair and how you did?” Nine guests were present. Davin Wickman led the Pledge of Allegiance.

     New business: Members were reminded to send thank-yous to trophy and other fair sponsors.

     Members discussed meeting dates for next year and due to holidays, decided to set Sept. 8 instead of Sept. 1 and July 12 instead of July 5 as our meeting dates. We also changed the time of the February meeting to 4 p.m., due to it being Super Bowl Sunday.

     Members were reminded to keep the paper’s fair edition to use for their record books. Also, the Extension Office will be holding a record book workshop on Tuesday Aug. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. Members can come and go as they please.

     Lilly Stoll made the motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Davin Wickman. Motion carried. Davin Wickman led the pledge to the 4-H flag. A record book work session was held.

Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the Lawrence Community Center. Guest speaker Dr. Cole Burrack talked about what being a veterinarian is really like, covering many different topics in the veterinarian field.

     The meeting was called to order at 5:48 p.m. by Grace Lubben. Grant Lubben led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was given and it was moved by Elizabeth Riniker and seconded by Maisie Paulsen to approve the minutes. The motion passed by majority vote. Treasurer’s Report was given and it was moved by Koree Miller to approve the report. It was seconded by Ava Capron and passed by majority vote. Bills were presented and Brooklyn Stark moved to approve the bills and Jordan Snow seconded it. The motion passed by majority vote. Roll call was – “Suggestions on how to prepare for county fair.” It was answered by 17 members. There were three leaders and eight guests present.

Old Business: Swine/Goat/Sheep weigh-in – Elizabeth Riniker, Autumn Kirby, and Zabrina Kirby said that it went really smoothly for weighing in their goats. Trista DeShaw reported on sheep weigh in saying that it also went smoothly.

     New Business: YQCA- The 4-H program is going to a new quality of assurance program which started January 2018. There will be no face to face meeting this year; everything will be done online. The YQCA is only good for one year and will cost $12 to take. The 4-H County Council Project Fair, Horse Workshop, Junior 4-H Camp, Senior Omaha Zoo Trip, Iowa 4-H Conference/Animal Science Roundup and Poultry Pullorum testing were discussed.

     Club Booth – Koree Miller moved and Lauren Oltmanns seconded to go with the booth theme of “4-H Can Take You to Infinity and Beyond.” This passed by majority vote. Table Setting Challenge – the theme for this year is “To the Moon and Back.” Club Garden – supplies for this will be picked up May 16th, 5 - 6 p.m. Club Barn Quilt Square – Ava Capron and Grant Lubben submitted a design; it was decided to combine the designs together to make one.

     It was announced that Koree Miller was crowned Poultry Princess by the Poultry Association. The meeting was adjourned at 6:23 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Koree Miller. Lauren Oltmanns gave a presentation on “Making Brownies.”

Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at the Jones County Youth Development Center.

     The meeting was called to order at 1:22 p.m. by Grace Lubben. Karli Recker led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was given and it was moved by Maisie Paulsen to approve the report. It was seconded by Lauren Oltmanns and passed by majority vote.  Treasurer’s Report was given and it was moved by Maisie Paulsen to approve the report. It was seconded by Elizabeth Riniker and passed by majority vote. Bills were presented and Karli Recker moved to approve payment of the bills. Ava Capron seconded it and it passed by majority vote. Roll call was – “One thing I have learned in one of my project areas.” It was answered by 18 members. There were four leaders and 20 guests present.

     Old Business: Thank you everyone for doing such a great job getting all your animal projects ID’d on the computer this year. FSQA/YQCA and Horse Workshop were discussed. Table Setting Challenge –  thank you to Marissa Recker for spearheading this club challenge. Club Garden Challenge –  This was picked up and planted. Thank you to the Recker family for allowing this to be located at their residence. Club Barn Quilt Square – This has been handed in. Thank you to Ava Capron and Grant Lubben for designing our club square.

     New Business: Forms that were due July 1 were discussed. State Fair Entries are being done online. If you have any questions on State Fair entries, please contact the Extension Office.  Poultry Pullorum Testing – due to a shortage of serum this year there was no testing. If you have any questions please contact the Extension Office, Ray Bowers, or Becky Kirby-Creveling. Fair Packets were handed out. The Club Booth, Conference Judging, and Floor and Stand Duty at the fair were discussed. T-Shirts – Anyone needing one, please get a hold of Cinda Petrick. Remember, wear one whenever you are exhibiting. FAST Project checkout is Sunday, July 21st at 6:00 p.m. Club Tour – We went on our yearly Club Tour following the meeting and we visited the following places: Recker’s, Lubben’s, Riniker’s, concluding at Miller’s. We saw a variety of livestock projects. The meeting was adjourned at 1:47 p.m. by Grace Lubben with the 4-H Pledge being led by Lauren Oltmanns.

Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at the Lawrence Community Center.

     The meeting was called to order at 3:28 p.m. by Autumn Kirby. Trista DeShaw led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was not given. Treasurer’s Report was given and moved by Maisie Paulsen and seconded by Lauren Oltmanns. The motion passed by majority vote. Bills were presented: Rabbit Trophy at $30; Lauren Oltmanns moved and Maisie Paulsen seconded this payment and it passed by majority vote. The bill for the fair booth and table setting was also presented at $124.42; Larissa Saunders moved and Brooklyn Stark seconded payment of this bill and it passed by majority vote. Roll call was – “A place I would like to visit.” It was answered by eight members. There were three leaders and six guests present.

Old Business: All members present reported on how they did at the Great Jones County Fair.  Our club had many projects considered for the State Fair. Members also provided written feedback on the pros and cons of the fair.

     New Business: Iowa State Fair -will be August 8-18, and it was asked which members would be going to the fair, either to visit or show. Record Books – All record books are recommended to be handed in at the October meeting unless you are applying for an award; then they need to be to a leader by August 27. All record book forms and information will be found at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/jones/4hThe Secretary’s Book, Treasurer’s Book and Historian’s Book are due into the Extension Office by August 30, 2019. Also, anyone who wants to try for an award in an area must have been enrolled and completed that project for a total of three years.

     Raking leaves and bonfire – Rinikers were wondering if we wanted to rake leaves at Boots’ Nursery toward the end of October and end the afternoon with having a bonfire and meal. Lawrence Community Center Donation – We are making a $150 donation to the Lawrence Community Center for letting us hold meetings there; Maisie Paulsen moved and Lauren Oltmanns seconded this donation and it passed by majority vote. Members are asked to come up with fundraiser ideas. There will be no September meeting. The next scheduled meeting is Sunday, October 6; this will also be the election of officers.

     The meeting was adjourned at 3:50 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Maisie Paulsen.
