Olin 4-H Club

     The Olin 4-H Club held its monthly meeting Nov. 3, 2019. The meeting was called to order by Dawson Hirl, President, at 5:30 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Eli Lehrman. Roll Call question was “What are you thankful for?” Committees met and reports were given. Treasurer’s Report was given. For a fundraiser we will be participating at the Bake Sale held at Calkins Barn Dec. 8 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Two batches of baked goods per family and a club silent auction basket will be needed. Aaron Bixler motioned and Seth Bixler seconded that we would help at the Olin Fireman’s Breakfast on April 5, 2020 for community service. Discussion was held on our Little Free Library that we will be making.

     In Old Business, Eli Lehrman was inducted as reporter; Club Officer Training is Nov. 17 at the Tipton Extension Office from 2 to 4 p.m.

     In New Business, information was given on the Beef Weigh-In at Kirkwood Dec. 21 and at Cascade Dec. 28. Aaron Bixler motioned and Eli Lehrman seconded having a holiday/party with pizza and gift exchange Jan. 5, 2020. Beef Blast at ISU Campus is Dec. 7 and Teens Teaching Tech Informational Meeting is Dec. 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The 4-H Pledge was led by Curtis Lyon, and the meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m. Next meeting will be Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Olin Legion Hall.

Scotch Grove Challengers

     The meeting of the Scotch Grove Challengers 4-H Club was held at the Monticello Renaissance Center in Monticello on Sept. 15, 2019 at 6 p.m.

     President Kristen Roher called the meeting to order and roll call was: Favorite fall activity. Katie Roher led the Pledge of Allegiance. No Secretary’s Report was given.  Kacie Rickels provided the Treasurer’s Report. Royce Kiburz made the motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report and Aedan Althoff seconded. Motion carried.

     New business: Election of club officers was held. The following positions were filled: President – Kristen Roher, Vice President – Katie Roher, Treasurer – Kacie Rickels, Secretary – Aedan Althoff, Reporter – Annie Schlarmann and Activity Coordinators – Lilly Stoll, Keziah McQuillen, Haili Scharmann and Kinzi Schlarmann.  The positions for Photographer and Historian will be voted at the next meeting.

     4-H enrollment started Sept. 3 and members were encouraged to enroll.

     Club program was discussed and will be ready for the next meeting, which will include meeting days, presentation schedule, hosts/hostesses for each meeting.

     Fair premium checks were handed out and members were advised to cash before Nov. 30.

     Holiday Party to be held in November and Activity Coordinators will be planning the event and activities for the day.

     Club was asked to do a wedding cleanup at Berndes Center on Sept. 29 for a donation to the club, which will be used for club members helping dues. Members were reminded to turn in any Show-Rite feed tags for a donation to club. Other fundraising options were discussed.

     Tyler Soppe made the motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Aedan Althoff.  Keziah McQuillen led the pledge to the 4-H flag.  The meeting ended at 6:35 p.m.

Scotch Grove Challengers

     The meeting of the Scotch Grove Challengers was held at the Monticello Renaissance Center on Oct. 6, 2019 at 6 p.m.

     President Kristen Roher called the meeting to order. Roll call topic: What is a Project you would like to learn about? Aedan Althoff led the Pledge of Allegiance. Aedan Althoff provided the Secretary’s Report. Davin Wickman motioned to approve the Secretary’s Report, seconded by Tyler Soppe. Motion carried. Kacie Rickels gave the Treasurer’s Report. Royce Kiburz motioned to approve the report, seconded by Tyler Soppe. Motion carried.

     Old Business: Royce Kiburz filled the position of club photographer and Ryker Hein was selected as historian. Annie Schlarmann turned down the position, so election will be held at the next meeting.

     4-H enrollment has opened and members that completed their enrollment received a special treat. Please complete re-enrollments ASAP.

     New Business: National 4-H Week will be celebrated October 6-12. On October 6th there will a pumpkin hidden in Monticello. Other activities to celebrate 4-H week were announced.

     Our 4-H Awards Program will be held on Nov. 10. Each club is asked to bring dessert bars to share. Aedan Althoff and Lilly Stoll volunteered.

     The 4-H Volleyball tournament will be on Saturday, Nov. 9. Team sign-ups are due Oct. 31.

     Several applications and forms were discussed: Camera corps applications are due Oct 31, The Jones County Cattlemen have a heifer program geared toward freshmen; Sally Hinrichsen will share the application in email. The 4-H Youth in Action Award window is soon; more details are in the newsletter.

     Two upcoming events were discussed: Club officer training Sunday, Nov. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Cedar County Fairgrounds.

     Mrs. McQuillen provided members and families with information on the remind app; we will use this to send text messages with club information.

     Members discussed sponsoring a HACAP family for Christmas again this year. Davin Wickman moved to sponsoring a HACAP family for Christmas this year and Aedan Althoff seconded. Motion carried.

     Lilly Stoll made the motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Tyler Soppe. Steven Bader led the Pledge To The 4-H Flag. The meeting ended at 6:35 PM.

     Aedan Althoff gave his presentation on triathlon equipment used and advice, and Steven Bader gave his presentation on fall safety tips.
