Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held their regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019 at the Jones County Youth Development Center.

     President Autumn Kirby called the meeting to order at 3:04 p.m. Trista DeShaw led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was given and approved. Lauren Oltmanns moved to approve the secretary’s minutes and Ava Capron seconded it; it passed by majority vote. Treasurer’s Report was given and approved. Natalie Henderson moved to approve the treasurer’s report and Hailey Henderson seconded it; it passed by majority vote. Bills were presented. Kyle Arduser moved to approve payment for the presented bills and Gracie Henderson seconded; it passed by majority vote. Roll call was – Candy Bar Ice Breaker. It was answered by 15 members. There were three leaders and seven guests present.

     Old Business: Online Enrollment and Code of Ethics need to be completed if you have not done so. Officer training has been scheduled for Nov. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Cedar County Fairgrounds in Tipton. Volleyball has been scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9. Seniors will start, with juniors to follow. First game is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Awards Day is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Jones County Youth Development Center from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Everyone who attended the Make a Difference Day said that they had fun doing it and it was greatly appreciated by Jerry and Maria White.

     New Business: The Christmas Tree Walk is Dec. 13-15 at the Lawrence Community Center, and we plan to have a tree there as well as making a HACAP donation for having a tree on display. The club will donate Christmas cards, tie blankets, DVDs, books, games, and cards to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and Clinics, Shriners Children’s Hospital, and Blank Children’s Hospital. We will again participate in the Christmas STAR program. The club has turned in the paperwork and will receive a family by Nov. 15 and shopping will begin. We will be wrapping these gifts at our December meeting and it was agreed that the club would buy a toy, an outfit, and hat and gloves for every child in the family along with cleaning items, food, and an essential basket for the family. Our Christmas party is scheduled for Dec. 8 at the Jones County Youth Development Center at noon. Please bring a dozen cookies/bars to the December meeting, so that the Cookie Appreciation Platters can be assembled to be given to local businesses for their continued support of 4-H in Jones County. It was also decided to do a sock exchange among the members this year at our Christmas Party. The Beef weigh-in will be held Dec. 21 at Kirkwood Community College Tippie Beef Center for any market beef animal(s) that may possibly be shown at the Iowa State Fair or AKSARBEN. For any market beef animal(s) only going to the county fair - weigh in will be Dec. 28 at the Cascade Sale Barn. An All-Livestock Workshop is scheduled for Dec. 27 at the Jones County Youth Development Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For a fundraiser, the club discussed doing something at Pizza Ranch; it was decided to discuss it further after Jan. 1. The club welcomed new members: Karli Manternach and Alex Shover.

     The meeting was adjourned at 3:32 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Grant Lubben.
