Prairie Hill – November

     The November meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club was held on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019 at the Jones County Youth Development Center.

     Prior to the meeting, Edgewood Locker meat packages were organized and given to members to distribute. The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m. by Lauren Koehler, President. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Lincoln Schneiter.  Roll call of “What did you bring to donate to the food pantry?” was answered by 36 members. Five leaders and six guests were in attendance.

     There was no Secretary Report. Treasurer Taylor Gassman gave her monthly report. A bill payable to Edgewood Locker for the meat was presented. Karla Koehler recommended that the club purchase a first aid kit costing no more than $50. Bella Mullen made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report and bill to purchase a first aid kit. Carter Martin seconded the motion. Motion carried. Izzy Taylor gave a presentation about horses.

     Old business was discussed. Members receiving awards at 4-H Awards day were recognized. Leah Koehler reported that five members gave presentations at Pennington Square Assisted Living Center Oct. 26. Roth Schnoor reported that Prairie Hill finished second at the 4-H Volleyball Tournament. Six Prairie Hill Officers attended training for new club officers Nov. 17 at the Cedar County Extension Office in Tipton.

     New business was discussed.  Iowa 4-H is accepting applications for the 2019-20 Camera Corps. An All Livestock Workshop is going to be held on Friday, Dec. 27 at the Youth Development Center. The Citizenship Washington Focus Trip is a 4-H leadership program which will be held in June 2020. Teens Teaching Tech is a new program offered to members in high school. Beef Blast will be held Dec. 7 at Iowa State University. Members should see a leader for further information if interested in attending these events.

     The next meeting of Prairie Hill 4-H Club will be on Monday, Dec. 16 at 6:15 p.m.  Members were asked to bring a $5 holiday gift to the meeting.

     Kylie McElmeel gave a presentation about pudding pie cups. Members were invited to make their own after the presentation.

     The meeting was hosted by Keegan and Kylie McElmeel and Izzy Taylor. Claire Hogan made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Roth Schnoor seconded the motion. Motion carried.

     The meeting concluded with the Pledge to the 4-H Flag, led by Lane Weber.

Prairie Hill – December

     The December meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club was held Monday, Dec. 16, 2019 at the Jones County Youth Development Center. The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m. by Lauren Koehler, President. The pledge to the American Flag was led by Madilynn Kromminga. Roll call of  “What is your favorite winter sport?” was answered by 34 members. Five leaders and six guests were in attendance.

     Secretary Kendall Siebels gave her monthly report. Dawson Ricklefs made a motion to approve the Secretary’s Report. Lincoln Schneiter seconded the motion. Motion carried.

     Treasurer Taylor Gassman gave her monthly report. Bills from Legacy Lanes for the pizza and for the candles and candy canes that Karla Koehler purchased were presented. Dawson Ricklefs made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report and pay the bills to purchase the pizza, candles and candy canes. Lane Weber seconded the motion. Motion carried.

     Old business was discussed (all mentioned under “New Business” in the November minutes).

     New business was discussed.  Junior 4-H and Friends Lock-In is Feb. 28. Fourth through sixth grade 4-H members and friends are invited to join Jones County 4-H Council Members for this lock-in. There will be community service projects, snacks, recreational activities, crafts, movies, games and much more. More details will come soon. RSVP’s are due Jan. 20.

     All Market Beef Weigh-Ins for the Iowa State Fair must be weighed in and retinal imaged on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at Kirkwood. Those only showing at county fair must attend our second weigh-in on Saturday, Dec. 28, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Cascade Livestock Auction. News Party is cancelled.

     The next meeting of Prairie Hill 4-H Club will be on Monday, Jan. 20 at 6:15 p.m. Hosting the meeting in January and giving presentations are Landon Orcutt and Carter Martin.

     Kole Weber gave a presentation about Goat Feeders, “Part 1.” Lane Weber gave a presentation about Goat Feeders, “Part 2.” Courtney Thies gave a presentation about Horse First Aid Kit.

     The meeting was hosted by Bella Mullen, Courtney Thies, Lane Weber, Kole, and Eian Weber.

     Claire Hogan made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Valerie Cupples seconded the motion. Motion carried.

     The meeting concluded with the pledge to the 4-H Flag, led by Lincoln Schneiter.
