Olin 4-H Club

     The Olin 4-H Club held its monthly meeting on Feb. 2, 2020. Committees held their meetings and reports were given. Reminders were given on 4-H scholarships, YQCA on March 9 or June 15, Legislative trip on Feb. 19, 4-H Lock-in on Feb. 28-29, and internship applications being due before March 9.

     Presentations were given by Curtis Lyon on stockings for homebound kids and adults and Mikayla VonBehren on s’mores bars. Our next meeting will be Sunday, March 1 at 5 p.m. at the Olin Legion Hall.

Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020 at the Lawrence Community Center.

     Roll call was – “Valentine’s Ice Breaker.” It was answered by 16 members. There were four leaders and six guests present.

     The club had guest speaker Attorney Mark Van Heukelom speak on his job career, which was a very informational talk.

     The meeting was called to order at 2:23 p.m. by President Autumn Kirby. Elizabeth Riniker led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was given. It was moved by Maisie Paulsen and seconded by Hailey Henderson to approve the Secretary’s Report; it passed by majority. Treasurer’s Report was given and it was moved by Koree Miller and seconded by Natalie Henderson to approve the Treasurers Report; it passed by majority.

     Old Business included discussion on t-shirts and sweatshirts, the YQCA program, which will include face-to-face meetings March 9; the 4-H Legislative Trip, F.A.S.T. Project Workshop Day, Beef Project Workshop Day, and the 4-H Youth Lock-In.

     New Business: Presentations – These will be given at the March meeting and everyone should give one, unless you have talked to a leader prior to the meeting. Fundraiser – Selling starts Feb. 2 and goes until March 1. There will be a Monticello pick up spot at the Extension Office and in Anamosa at the Lawrence Community Center. Swine Weigh-In – This will be held on Saturday, April 4 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. This is for all swine projects. There is more information on the Jones County 4-H Facebook page. If you have any questions, please direct them to the Extension Office. Sheep & Goat Weigh-In –  this will be held Saturday April 25 from 8 to 10 a.m. There is more information on the Jones County 4-H Facebook page. If you have questions, direct them to the Extension Office. 4-H Clothing Event and Communication Day – This will be Saturday May 2. More information will be coming out soon from the Extension Office. County 4-H Workshops – There are several workshops scheduled. These include horse clinics, pet workshop, jam and preservation workshop, swine workshop, rabbit workshop, and horticulture workshops. Please see attached flyers, Jones County Extension Office website, and the Jones County 4-H Facebook page for more info. All workshops have a RSVP date requirement to contact the Extension Office.

     Koree Miller gave a presentation on her Iowa Poultry Adventure. Lauren Oltmanns moved to adjourn the meeting and Grace Lubben seconded it; it passed by majority vote. The meeting was adjourned at 2:43 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Kaden Kiburz. The members participated in making Valentines for Vets.

     The next meeting is scheduled for March 1 at 1 p.m. at the Youth Development Center.
