Prairie Hill

     The April meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H club was held Monday April 20, 2020 via Zoom. The meeting was called to order at 6:15pm by Lauren Koehler, President. The pledge to the American Flag was led by Claire Hogan. Roll call of “What is your favorite food?” was answered by 30 members.

     Kendall Siebels read the Secretary’s Report. Logan Moestchen made a motion to approve the Secretary’s Report. Emma Kromminga seconded the motion. Motion carried.

     Treasurer Taylor Gassman gave her monthly report. Lincoln Schneiter made a motion to approve the treasurer's report.

     Old Business: YQCA (Youth for the Quality Care of Animals) certifications are due by July 1 for those members who want to show most livestock at the Jones County Fair. Training may be completed online for a cost of $12 or members may attend face-to-face training that is free of charge. Face to face training will be held June 15 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Anamosa High school. Induction of new members will happen at the next face-to-face Prairie Hill meeting.

     New Business: Leaders are considering holding a special event later in the year to give new members the opportunity to give presentations. Clothing event report forms –  due to Covid-19 the Jones County Clothing Event will now be held on Sunday, May 31 starting at 1 p.m. Entry forms are due to the Extension office by May 15. Due to the office being closed, please email the forms to jenfisch@iastate.edu or mail them.

     Communication event report forms – due to Covid-19 the communication event will now be held June 20 starting at 2 p.m. at the Jones County Extension and Outreach office, 800 N. Maple St., Monticello. Entry forms are due to the Extension office by May 15. Due to the office being closed please email the forms to jenfisch@iastate.edu or mail them.

     Working exhibits will be done during the Great Jones County Fair – not on Communication Day, and those forms are due by July 1. Also Due May 15: Animals Housed of Home Farm Request Forms, Horse Lease Agreement Forms, Enrollment in 4-H, 4-H online project area enrollment deadline, Animal/Livestock identifications in 4-H online, and Swine Premise ID numbers.

     If you are showing Swine or Sheep or Goats at the Fair, you must have your animals tagged by May 1. Call Jennifer at 319-213-5484 to arrange to pick up tags if you have not done so already.

     Mandatory Poultry Workshop and Bird Banding will be June 20. Pullorum testing for 2020 fairs has been waived. Market Broiler/Roaster orders due May 1. Cost is $1.50 per bird, which includes the cost of banding.

     Jessica McElmeel spoke regarding new shirts. If you would like a shirt she needs to know size, color, and if you want your name on the back, by May 1.

     The next meeting of Prairie Hill 4-H Club will be held on Monday May 18 at 6:15 p.m.

Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, April 5, 2020 through a Zoom virtual meeting.

     The meeting was called to order at 1:01 p.m. by Autumn Kirby. Grace Lubben led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was given and it was moved by Lauren Oltmanns to approve the report. It was seconded by Ava Capron and passed by majority vote. Treasurer’s Report was given and it was moved by Elizabeth Riniker to approve the report. It was seconded by Brooklyn Stark and passed by majority vote. Bills were presented and it was moved by Elizabeth Riniker and seconded by Kyle Anduser to approve these bills. It passed by majority vote. Roll call was – “Which month of the year do you think would best describe your personality?” It was answered by 13 members. There were six leaders and two guests present.

     Old Business: The t-shirts and sweatshirts are still being worked on. As soon as everything is set and t-shirts and sweatshirts are on order, you will be notified. The YQCA program is going to continue the quality assurance program. There will be a face-to-face meeting which is scheduled for Monday, June 15 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Anamosa High School. Face-to-face certification only costs $3 per year. If you choose to do ONLINE certification, it will cost you $12. Both are still only good for one year.

     Thank you to everyone for selling our fundraiser products. The Swine Weigh-In has been canceled. Swine tag pick up is a new protocol that is replacing the Swine Weigh-In. Please review the protocol and have the swine tagged and paperwork in by May 1.

Please review the protocol and have the sheep/goat tagged and paperwork in by May 15. The Clothing Event and Communication Day have been rescheduled. The Clothing Event is May 31 at 1:30 p.m. Communication Day is June 20 at 2 p.m. Entry forms will be due May 15.

     New Business: Market Broiler Order Deadline – the order form is due May 1 with a June 10 pickup for chicks at the Extension Office. Junior 4-H Camp is June 8-11 at Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca near Solon. Registration is due May 15 to the Extension Office. Iowa 4-H Conference/Animal Science Round Up is June 30-July 2 at Iowa State University, Ames. Animal Science Round up Application is due April 15 (online). Conference registration deadline is June 1 (online). June 1 deadline – Please get your paperwork done on time as no one wants to be left out of being able to exhibit at the county fair.

     The meeting was adjourned at 1:35 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Elizabeth Riniker.
