Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, May 3, 2020 which was held via Zoom.

     The meeting was called to order at 6:34 p.m. by Autumn Kirby. Nichelle Kirby led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was given and it was moved by Maisie Paulsen and seconded by Ava Capron to approve the minutes. The motion passed by majority vote. Treasurer’s Report was given and it was moved by Lauren Oltmanns to approve the report. It was seconded by Kyle Arduser and passed by majority vote. Bills were presented and Grace Lubben moved to approve the bills and Kyle Arduser seconded it. The motion passed by majority vote.  Roll call was: “Suggestions on how to prepare for county fair.” It was answered by 12 members. There were five leaders present.

     Old Business: T-Shirts & Sweatshirts – These have been ordered and extra shirts have been ordered. YQCA – The 4-H program is going to continue the quality assurance program. There will be a face-to-face meeting which is scheduled for Monday, June 15 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Anamosa High School. Face-to-Face certification only costs $3 per year. If you choose to do online certification, it will still cost you $12. Both are still only good for one year. Presentations – We need to try and complete the remaining presentations. Please consider giving these at our forthcoming meetings. This may be done virtually or face-to-face depending on current regulations. 4-H Clothing Event and Communication Day – This has been rescheduled for June 20. Clothing Event is at 1 p.m. and the Communication at 2 p.m. Entry forms will be due May 15. More information will be coming out soon from the Extension Office. Horse Workshop – The following dates are scheduled for horse members to attend the workshop virtually: May 6, 9, 20 and 23. The following dates will be done face-to-face as of now: June 3 and 13. Contact the Extension Office with any questions. The livestock deadlines have been extended until June 1. Junior 4-H Camp  and Iowa 4-H Conference/Animal Science Round Up have both been cancelled. Club Booth – Our club booth theme is “The Beat Goes On”. Table Setting – Autumn Kirby volunteered to lead this project.

     New Business: Poultry Banding and Workshop – This will be done June 20 at the Great Jones County Fairgrounds (small animal building) in the morning. More information coming out soon. Keep watching for the 4-H Online and newsletter updates. This testing is for all birds except broilers. Broilers will be tested right before fair. Keep your eyes open for details at a later date. If you have any questions please contact the Extension office, Ray Bowers, or Becky Kirby-Creveling. Performance Beef Show – This is scheduled for June 25. More information coming soon. Fair Entry Deadline – June 1is the deadline for county and state fair. More information coming soon.

     Presentations were given by Halle Recker: “How To Put a Bridle On a Horse;” and Nichelle Kirby: “Red Radish Club.”

     The meeting was adjourned at 7:07 p.m. by Autumn Kirby. The 4-H Pledge was led by Lauren Oltmanns.

     The next meeting will be June 28 at 1 p.m.
