Prairie Hill

     The August meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H club was held on Aug. 17, 2020 held outside of the Youth Development Center with social distancing and masks. The meeting was called to order at 6:16 p.m. by Lauren Koehler. Pledge to the American flag was led by Courtney Thies. Roll Call of “What is your favorite thing about the Jones County Fair?” was answered by 25 members. Three leaders and five guests were also in attendance.

     Dawson Ricklefs made a motion to approve the July Secretary’s Report. Jessica Stadtmueller seconded the motion. Motion passed. The Treasurer’s Report was given by Taylor Gassman. Dawson Ricklefs made a motion to approve the treasurer's report. Kylee McElmeel seconded the motion. Motion passed.

     Old business was discussed. Prairie Hill Historian is still in need of member photos for the Historian Book (Lily). Congratulations to Prairie Hill State Fair Fast Projects and Sweepstakes Award Winners: Mace Schnoor: Photography, Ag and Natural Resources, Educational Presentation. Lake Schnoor: Educational Presentation. Olivia Besler: Photography (2). Lily Moestchen: Ag and Natural Resources and Sweepstakes award, Child Development. Logan Moestchen: Sweepstakes Award Animals. Kylee McElmeel: Sweepstakes Award Sewing and Needle Arts. Leah Koehler: Home Improvement and Sweepstakes Award. Lauren Koehler: Food and Nutrition, Communications and Visual Arts, Share the Fun, Working Exhibit. Claire Hogan was recognized for showing at the Iowa State Fair.

     New business was discussed. Record book completion, record books were due Aug. 31. Officer Elections will be held at the September meeting. The thank-you cards to fair donors and Sponsors was discussed. The leaders have decided to write all the members’ names on the cards we send to donors and to the fair due to COVID-19.

     Lauren Koehler gave a presentation on Where in Eastern Iowa? Leah Koehler gave a presentation on Protein Power. Keegan McElmeel gave a presentation on African Swine Fever and Eli Moestchen gave his presentation on Showing a chicken.

     Motion to adjourn the meeting made by Lauren Koehler and seconded by Adele Hogan. Pledge to the 4-H flag was led by Lily Moestchen.
