Prairie Hill

     The November meeting of the Prairie Hill 4-H Club was held Monday, Nov. 16, 2020 via Zoom.

     The meeting was called to order at 6:23 p.m. by Lake Schnoor, President. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Drew Ricklefs.

     The Secretary’s Report was read by Leah Koehler, Secretary. Eli Moestchen made a motion to approve the minutes. Kylee McElmeel seconded the motion. Motion carried.

     The Treasurer’s Report was given by Lauren Koehler, Treasurer. Roth Schnoor made a motion to approved the Treasurer’s Report. Lane Weber seconded the motion. Motion carried.

     Old business: The Jones County Cattlemen Heifer Program was reviewed. The program was offering three bred heifers to a qualifying individual. Applications were due Nov. 1. Members Lake Schnoor, Miranda Rieken and Leah Koehler reported on their experiences at the 2020 Officer Training held via Zoom.

     New business: The 4-H Awards Day has been postponed. The due date to enroll for 4-H Online 2.0 was discussed. The deadline is Dec. 1 at 4 p.m. in order to show at the Great Jones County Fair. First-year members have until May 15, 2021 to enroll. Member Grant Gassman was recognized for being on the front page of the November Jones County 4-H Newsletter. The Market Beef Weigh-In will be Saturday, Dec. 19 at the Cascade Sale Barn. COVID-19 protocols will be sent out through 4-H Online to members enrolled in beef. The schedule for the day will be as follows: County fair only, 8 to 10 a.m.; state fair, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Members were encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to the Extension office. Donations will benefit area needs. The Northeast Iowa Show Goat Clinic will be held Thursday, Dec. 10, 6:30-7:30 p.m., virtually. Topics discussed will include meat goat selection, daily care and nutrition, and show daily prep and showmanship. RSVPs are due by Dec. 4.

     Kylee McElmeel gave a presentation on a window repurpose and egg decoration. Keegan McElmeel gave a presentation on 4-H communication posters.

     The next Prairie Hill 4-H meeting will be held Monday, Dec. 21 at 6:15 p.m., most likely via Zoom.

     A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Lauren Koehler and seconded by Roth Schnoor. Miranda Rieken led the Pledge to the 4-H Flag.
