Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the Citizens State Bank Youth Development Center in Monticello.

     The meeting was called to order at 1:12 p.m. by president Elizabeth Creveling. Gracie Henderson led the Pledge of Allegiance. The Secretary’s Report and Treasurer’s Report were given and approved. Roll call was: “Who is one famous person that you would like to be or meet for one day.” It was answered by 12 members. There were three leaders and four guests present.

     There was no old business.

     New Business was: Basketball – We need to know who wants to play. This is tentatively scheduled for March or April. No other details have been released at this time. The Intermediate trip is scheduled for April 1-2 at Wisconsin Dells. Registration due by March 15. Spring Fundraiser – Thanks to members and parents for selling. We will let everyone know how we did at the next meeting. Also, remember that the meat will be delivered on Saturday, April 1 with places for pickup to be announced later. Swine Weigh-in will be held on Saturday, March 25 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Jones County Fairgrounds. A separate email will be sent out to members enrolled in swine. This is the derby deadline with April 29 being the market hog deadline. FSQA – Members showing beef, bucket/bottle calves, dairy, goats, poultry, rabbits, sheep or swine must complete FSQA training or they will not be eligible to exhibit at the Great Jones County Fair. The dates are May 10 and June 15, all at the Youth Development Center; all starting at 6:30 p.m. Please RSVP, so that they can have a head count. T-shirt design was tabled until next meeting.

     There were Presentations given by Kaden Kiburz on “The Proper Way to Use a Putter,” Grant Lubben  on “Tornado Safety Kit,” Haven Baker and Elizabeth Riniker on “Elephant Toothpaste,” Trista DeShaw on “Trail Mix,” and Koree Miller on “Tennessee Miniature Goats.”

     The 4-H Pledge was led by Kaden Kiburz.

     The next meeting will be April 2, 6:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Community Center in Anamosa. Presentations must be given by all remaining members at the April or May meeting.

Oxford Livewires

     The monthly meeting of the Oxford Livewires 4-H Club was held April 2, 2017 at the Oxford Junction Senior Citizen Center. Prior to the meeting, the Midland FFA Ag Issues competition team offered its presentation. Vice president Payton Lasack called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Emma Vacek. Fifteen members were present and answered the roll call: “What is the funniest thing that has happened to you?” The secretary’s report was presented by Callie Feuss. Hunter Wink made a motion to approve the report and Brayden Balichek seconded it. The motion carried. Gracie Wink presented the treasurer’s report. Jared Crock made a motion to donate to 4-H’ers for 4-H. Lauryn Eganhouse seconded the motion. The motion carried.

     In Old Business, Reece Vacek, Logan Bicknese and Ty Jensen reported on the Ducks Unlimited Banquet. Alex Lehrman and Cael Eganhouse reported on the intermediate trip to the Wisconsin Dells.

     In New Business, members showing livestock can participate in FSQA on May 10. 4-H Basketball will be held on April 8 at the Monticello Middle School. Bucket Bottle Calf information is at the Extension office or online. May 13 is County Presentation Day. The club decided to have a lunch stand at a household sale on April 29.

     Andrea Feuss made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Cael Eganhouse seconded it. The motion carried. The 4-H Pledge was led by Gracie Wink. Presentations were given by Jared Crock on Milton Hershey, Brayden Balichek on Peter Jok, and Emma Vacek on Barrel Racing. Hosts were Hunter and Gracie Wink and Logan Bicknese.
