Youth – and some adults too – are taking part and enjoying events as National 4-H Week, Oct. 6-12, began this week.

Jones County Extension and Outreach planned several events throughout the county to keep people thinking about the annual event throughout the week.

One of those is the pumpkin scavenger hunt. From Monday through Friday, two pumpkins were to be hiding in various Jones County towns.

Monticello and Martelle were the cities chosen for the first day – the Monticello pumpkin was found in the city’s Pocket Park by Abby Manternach of Monticello. Cascade and Wyoming were scheduled to be Tuesday’s cities.

     The remaining schedule:

     • Oct. 9, Scotch Grove and Morley.

     • Oct. 10, Fairview and Olin.

     • Oct. 11, Anamosa and Oxford Junction.

The first person to find each pumpkin will win a 4-H swag bag, which must be picked up by Oct. 31.

Other events, including 4-H member locker signs, and pumpkin decorating, were scheduled for early in the week.

     Remaining events:

     • Oct. 9 – Wear the 4-H clover with pride and snap photos with other 4-H members.

     • Oct. 10 – Post a photo on social media of your favorite 4-H memory. Don’t forget to tag Jones County, Iowa 4-H in your post, or email it to mollyrs@iastate.edu.

     • Oct. 11 – Send a thank-you to a 4-H leader or volunteer who has helped you.

Events such as these are being held not only in Jones County, but throughout America to celebrate 4-H. In Jones County alone, more than 430 youth and 100 volunteers are involved in 4-H.
