Accident sends injured teens to hospital

     A two-vehicle accident on Sept. 18 at 4:13 p.m. in Monticello resulted in injuries to several minors.

     The Monticello Police Department was called to the scene of the accident at the intersection of N. Cedar Street/Highway 38 and Seventh Street. Adam John Schlichte, 35, of Earlville was driving a 2019 Freight Conventional (dump truck) south on Cedar Street. Shannon Rose Mere, 16, of Olin was driving a 2009 Ford Focus SES with two occupants going east on Seventh Street. Mere ran the stop sign, causing Schlichte to hit her vehicle on the passenger’s side. Mere’s vehicle ended up in the grass on private property.

     Schlichte was uninjured. His vehicle sustained $2,000 in damages.

     Mere had minor injuries. Her two passengers were transported by EMS to Jones Regional Medical Center for their injuries: Sheri Doris Werth, 15, of Anamosa had sustained serious injuries; Raven Keast, 14, of Anamosa had minor injuries.

     There was $6,000 in damages to Mere’s vehicle.
