ACE Interface Training offered locally

The Jones County Safe and Healthy Youth Coalition in partnership with Community Partnerships for Protecting Children (CPPC), HACAP’s 1st Five Program, and ASAC (Area Substance Abuse Council) will be hosting the ACE (adverse childhood experiences) Interface training on Wednesday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Anamosa Lawrence Community Center.

The course provides an in-depth look at adverse childhood experiences and is designed for educators, human service providers, law enforcement, and others concerned about the resiliency and wellbeing of individuals who have experienced trauma. Participants will be able to define and explain the research behind ACEs and how it impacts the developing brain at critical stages. After taking the course, participants will also be able to describe the impact of ACEs on those we serve and list resiliency strategies for individuals impacted by ACEs to improve outcomes.

The trainers are Melissa Walker, Advanced Certified Prevention Specialist with Deputy Director from ASAC; Rev. Jean Sullivan who provides ACEs related trainings to schools, agencies, and civic organizations; and Diana Strahan, the 1st Five Site Coordinator, which is a IDPH program that works with primary care medical providers to identify young children with developmental delays and their families who are living with stress and anxiety. The course will also have a panel with Laura Medberry who serves College Community Schools as the Coordinator of Social and Student Services; Abby Seyfer, LISW, RPT who is the clinician supervisor of Tanager Place’s school-based program; and Jennifer Tibbitts, MSW, who has been in the role of Transitional Housing Program Manager at the Catherine McAuley Center.

The Iowa Board of Certification has approved 5.5 CEUs in Counseling Theories or Special Populations. Lunch will be served on site and the cost for the day of training and lunch/snacks is $10. Register with Jennifer Husmann at jhusmann@asac.us or call 319-462-4327 ext. 202 by April 20. Training is limited to the first 40 participants.
