Adel Wink

     Adel Wink, age 79, surrounded by her family, walked peacefully home following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

     Funeral services will be held 11 Saturday morning, April 21, 2018 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. Please join the family for lunch following the service. Pastor Dave Raemisch will officiate.      Surviving is her husband of nearly 59 years, Marvin; three children, Patti (Brian) Plath, West Des Moines, Iowa, Douglas (Lisa) Wink, Bettendorf, Iowa, Amy (Curtis Geldert) Wink, Minnetonka, Minn.; six grandchildren, Jake and Jackson Plath, Ashley and Mitchell Wink, Anna and Molly Geldert; her brother, Bill (Mariane) First, Turlock, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Sue First, Sun City, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents, and infant son, Donald Eugene and her brother, Neal First.

     Adel Margaret First was born Jan. 19, 1939 in Monticello, Iowa. She was the daughter of Byron (Pat) and Marie Reuter, First. Adel graduated with the class of 1957 from the Monticello Community Schools. She continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar Falls. Adel First and Marvin Wink were married July 26, 1959 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello. Adel taught for two years in the Wyoming, Iowa schools and then for three years at Carpenter School in Monticello. She took time off from teaching while raising her family but continued to substitute teach and also taught a reading program at Carpenter School. She and Marvin started Marvin’s Best Pre-Mixes and in 1981 that became Tri-Angle Ag Service. Adel was the bookkeeper and office manager for the business. She retired in 2006.

     Adel enjoyed gardening and reading. She loved to sew and was a great cook. She loved to spend time with her family especially her grandchildren. Adel enjoyed raising horses with Marvin and playing with the colts they raised.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at Alz.org.

     Adel’s family would like to thank the dedicated employees of the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Above & Beyond for their care and compassion.
