Alfreda K. Lange

     Alfreda K. Lange, 85, of Monticello, Iowa, died Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center.

     Funeral services will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Monticello at 11 Wednesday morning, April 18, 2018. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Friends may call from 4 until 7 Tuesday at Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello. Pastor Dave Raemisch will officiate at the services. Condolences may be given to the family at www.goettschonline.com.

     Alfreda was born May 24, 1932 in rural Jones County to Clara (Dirks) and Louis Ulferts. She married Vernon Lange on Aug. 5, 1949. They started their life together farming near Scotch Grove, Iowa, later moving to Monticello. Alfreda was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. She worked many retail jobs including over 24 years at Schultz Bros. Alfreda and Vernon loved camping and fishing; she loved working in the yard and taking her dog for walks.

     Alfreda moved to Pennington Square Assisted Living in 2004. Vernon passed away in 2005. She loved to listen to music and sing along. She enjoyed the activities at Assisted Living and helping others. In July 2010, she entered Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center also enjoying the activities especially singing and music, until her death.

     She is survived by two sons, Greg (Charlotte) Lange of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Dennis Lange of Batavia, Ill.; two grandsons Travis (Lindsay) Lange and Nathan (Jill) Lange of Marion, Iowa; two granddaughters Carrie (Chance) Wolinski and Chelsea Lange (Ryan) of Batavia, Ill.; three great-granddaughters, Darby and Tamzin Lange and Lotte Lange and a great grandson, Lance Wolinski. A sister, Dorothy (Bing) Postel and a brother LaVern (June) Ulferts both of Anamosa; a half- sister, Linda (Marvin) Smulevitz of Savannah, Ga.; step sisters, Helen Heiken, of Monticello, and Wilma Cox, of Anamosa; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Vernon (Bud) Lange, daughter-in-law Kathy Lange, her parents, stepfather (Bill Oltmanns), stepbrother (John Oltmanns) and stepsisters Rachel Griffith and Elda French; and sister-in-laws Ruth Morton and Joyce Serbousek.

     The family would like to thank the staff at Pennington Square and Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Above & Beyond Hospice for all the wonderful care given to Alfreda over these many years and last difficult days.
