Almost Famous hits three events in busy span

DANCE, GYMNASTICS

   Almost Famous Dance & Gymnastics has been busy lately, with three recent dance and gymnastics competitions.

   Those included a Starz Dance Competition March 25-26 in Dubuque; a Starz Dance Competition March 31-April 2 in Cedar Rapids; and the Candy Land Classic USTA competition April 16 in Jewell, Iowa.

   Almost Famous Dance & Gymnastics is under the direction of Melissa Ehrisman and Amanda Hackney, with the assistance of competition gymnastics coaches Andrea Rundle and Paige Kremer.

   Results of these meets follow.

 

Starz Dubuque

     Penelope Franzen, platinum, first overall and improv runner-up. Paisley Ploessl, high gold, first overall and improv winner. Avayah Jennerjohn, high gold, fifth overall and judges’ choice. Letti Galloway, high gold. Haddie Foxen, two high golds, fourth overall and improv runner-up. Kenzie Babbe, high gold and improv runner-up. Skylar Freeze, high gold. Saige Freeze, high gold. Seneca Freeze, high gold. Cameron Vargason, two platinums and judges’ choice. Kaylin Noll, high gold. Cheyenne Bird, high gold. Burlesque, platinum and third overall.

 

Starz Cedar Rapids

     Room A Rising Starz: Cameron Vargason 15th in contemporary. Myra Wilson, 10th in station and ninth overall. Woman Like Me, first.

     Room B Rising Starz: Chyles Rea 13th, Kelsey Kremer ninth, Paisley Ploessl first and platinum, Myra Wilson first and platinum, one group 15th.

     Overall high point awards: Paisley Ploessl first and platinum. Myra Wilson first and platinum. Chyles Rea first and platinum. Annie Schlarmann second and high gold. Kelsey Kremer third and platinum. Avayah Jennerjohn third and platinum. Cameron Vargason fourth and platinum. Letti Galloway fourth and platinum. Haddie Foxen fourth and platinum. Arrianna Jones fifth and platinum. Seneca Freeze ninth and platinum. Leah Smith 11th and platinum. Kaylee Hollenback 15th and platinum. Grace Harms 18th and platinum. Five groups took first, one took second, three took fourth and one took fifth.

     Judges’ choice awards: Annie Schlarmann, Alaina Mead, Cameron Vargason, four groups.

     Standout dancers: Leah Smith, Claire Tuetken, Grace Harms, Sadie Erion, Tessa Intorf, Kelsey Kremer, Kendall Jacobi, Kaylee Hollenback, Alaina Mead, Paisley Ploessl.

Candy Land Classic

     Sub-beginner: Charlotte Russell fourth.

     Beginner: Brody Jackson first, Sophia Lindauer second, Harper Cox second, Audrey Geraghty fourth, Miriam Telleen fourth, Izabella Austin sixth.

     Advanced beginner: Joslynn Kray first and overall high point winner, Austen Greenwood first, Frances Schroeder second, Skylar Freeze third, Skylar Christensen fifth, Sophia Jellison sixth, Kinley LaFave sixth.

     Sub-novice: Emma Brockhohn first, Violet Friedmann second, Faith Gaul seventh.

 

Additional notes

from KAR meet

     Left out of the report on the Kids Artistic Revue (KAR) meet in February were a couple of key awards for Almost Famous.

     The studio received the Top Primary Level award for the entire competition. And in the Production category, the Goonies routine was voted elite and finished first overall.
