      Alva F. Melchers, 76, of Anamosa, passed away March 18, 2020, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa.

      A Memorial Service for Al will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday July 25, 2020 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church in Monticello.  Relatives and friends may visit Wayne Zion one hour prior to services to offer condolences to the Melchers family. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Anamosa American Legion Post #13 and the Iowa Honors Detail.

      Alva was born April 1, 1943, in Anamosa, the son of Folkert and Henrika (Emken) Melchers. He graduated high school and went on to serve in the United States Army. He was a lifelong resident in Anamosa and proud of his roots. He farmed on the family farm. He enjoyed the peace of the country and being outdoors.  He drove semi for ADM and Mississippi Valley Forest Products, logging many miles over the years. He cherished every moment with his family, especially, his grandson.

      Survivors include his wife, Angelika, a grandson, Christian, his four siblings: Freda (Pat) Liker of Las Vegas, Nev., Renelda Heasty of Clarence, Sonny (Janet) Melchers of Fairfield, and Gene (Charlene) Melchers of Rosemont, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.  

      He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Stefan, a brother, John Melchers, a sister, Margaret Clark, and a brother-in-law, Lester Heasty.
