Anamosa Prison staff killed by inmate

A nurse and a correctional officer at the Anamosa State Penitentiary died as a result of their injuries after being attacked by an inmate in the hospital at the prison. The incicdent occurred around 10:15 a.m. today (Tuesday, March 23). The inmate attacked multiple staff members and inmates.

Security restrained the inmate. Staff performed emergency first aid on the two staff members until Anamsoa Ambulance arrived on scene. AirCare was also called in.

The names of the two deceased staff members are being withheld. The names and conditions of others who were possibly injured are also being withheld.
