On Nov. 22, incarcerated individuals and Anamosa State Penitentiary (ASP) staff members participated in a 5K Hospice Walk to raise funds to donate to Above & Beyond Hospice in Monticello.

Early in 2019, Megan Rupp, a social worker at Above & Beyond, volunteered her time to train roughly 20 hospice volunteers in proper care and management of hospice patients. Over the course of an eight-hour training, ASP hospice volunteers learned valuable information and skills to help facilitate the best possible care for those individuals, along with staff liaisons, organized a 5K Hospice Walk, which allowed individuals to request “pledges” from staff members to complete the run/walk. As a result, ASP was thrilled to present $516 to Above & Beyond Hospice, with additional funds still coming in.

ASP wants to thank all of the staff, hospice volunteers, and additional incarcerated individuals who participated in this great event.
