Austin Smith Inclusive Playground to close for resurfacing

Monticello Parks & Recreation wants to inform the community that the Austin Smith Inclusive Playground will be temporarily closed in early September for an important resurfacing project.

Last winter, they noticed that certain areas of the newly installed surface were not bonding as expected. After careful assessment and discussions with the installation company, it was determined that a full repouring of the surface would be necessary to ensure the playground remains a safe and enjoyable space for everyone. The company responsible for the original installation has graciously agreed to return and undertake this work. As of now, they are scheduled to begin the resurfacing project on Monday, Sept. 9, but please note that this date is subject to change depending on weather conditions. P&R will keep the public updated on any adjustments to the timeline as it gets closer to the start date.

During the resurfacing process, the playground will be closed to the public. They understand that this may cause some inconvenience, but the safety and long-term durability of the playground are their top priorities.

“We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to improve the Austin Smith Inclusive Playground,” stated P&R. “We look forward to reopening it as soon as possible, with a surface that meets the highest standards for safety and accessibility. Thank you for your continued support of our community spaces!”
