Austin Strong Ice Fishing Tourney is set

The fourth annual Austin Strong Ice Fishing Tournament will be Sunday, Jan. 31, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Park in Center Junction.

The event, a fundraiser for the Austin Strong Foundation, is typically held in Minnesota, but is being brought home to Iowa this year.

Registration is available the day of the event; no preregistration is required. Cost is $30 per adult and $15 per child (under 16). Registration opens at 8 a.m. at the Central Park boat ramp, 12515 Central Park Rd.

Participants will have the whole lake to use, as long as ice conditions remain safe. Participants are able to utilize ice tents and baits of their choice. A weigh station will be located on the ice in the middle of the lake.

Prizes will be presented for largest fish by weight for each species, including large-mouth bass, crappie, bluegill, sunfish, smallest overall fish, and largest fish caught by youth (under 16). In the event of a tie, the first fish caught will be the winner. Each participant may win in only one category. Prizes will be awarded at 1:30 p.m. at the completion of the tournament.

A sack lunch will be available for purchase, including a barbecue pork sandwich, chips and water at the main registration trailer between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

All Iowa DNR licensing and fishing regulations apply.
