Barbara Montag November 18, 1939 – October 18, 2017

Barbara Montag, age 77, died peacefully, Wednesday Oct. 18, 2017 at her home following an extended illness.

A gathering and prayer service were held from 2:00 until 3:00 Monday afternoon, October 23, 2017 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. At time of food and fellowship followed at the Center Junction Community Building.    A memorial fund has been established.  

Surviving are seven children, Leroy “Butch” Hartwig, Harold Hartwig, Beatrice Hochhalter, Karl Hartwig, Judi Bechthold, Joe Hartwig and Leon Hartwig, five step-children, Dottie Morales, Les Montag, Larry Montag, John Montag and Bev Johnson, 16 grandchildren, 16 step-grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 26 step-great-grandchildren, 10 step-great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph Montag, a son Larry in 2010 and her brother Edwin in 1964.

Barbara Virginia Eilers was born Nov. 18, 1939 in Monticello.  She was the daughter of Harold and Beatrice Smith, Eilers.  She graduated from the Morley High School in 1959.   Barbara married Kenneth Hartwig on June 21, 1959 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubuque.  They later divorced in 1976.   Barbara has been employed at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Ennoble Manor in Dubuque, Operation New View in Dubuque and the Last Straw in Worthington.  She married Joseph Montag on August 21, 1976.   He preceded her in death.
