Beginning beekeeping program is set

     Come learn the basics of beekeeping on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Central Park Nature Center.

     Joe Wagner, local beekeeper, will cover topics including selecting a race of bees to keep, the colony as a superorganism, bees as pollinators, types of hives, site selection for hive placement, equipment needed, parasites and diseases, producing and extracting honey, and hive products.

     This class is free and open to all ages. Interested participants will have the opportunity to visit live honey bee hives in the spring. Anyone interested should pre-register by calling 319-481-7987 or emailing naturalist@co.jones.ia.us. This program is sponsored by the Jones County Conservation Board and Friends of Jones County Conservation and Nature Center.
