The best day is today

In Ecclesiastes 3:1 we see one of the most famous verses in the Bible "There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the sun." Perhaps, it is because I am a former school teacher and now I am a pastor, but I would like to address the graduating class of 2017.

I'm going to make an educated guess that most of you have heard the sage advice of someone who told you "enjoy your high school years because they are the best years of your life."  Based on experience, I would also guess that some of you said "you've got to be kidding me" when you heard this.

High school is a pleasant time for most of us.  However, I would like to suggest to the graduates and everyone else that the best day of your life is today.  Whether you are 18, 38 or 88, if you enjoy good health, God has blessed you with another day on earth and you should use it and enjoy it to the "max".

Some days will be "better" days than others.  Some will be filled with joy, some with sorrow and some with a mixture.  However, as Jim Valvano, a one time highly successful basketball coach, as he battled terminal cancer said "I consider the day a success if I have laughed a little, cried a little, and tried to make a difference."

I suggest to the seniors and to us all that as Ecclesiastes says, "there is a time for every activity". Don't ever figure that your best day(s) is behind you.  Figure that your best day is the one you are presently blessed with and the one that, hopefully, is ahead tomorrow.

Say a prayer each day to our Heavenly Father thanking him for the 24 hours that lie ahead and ask Him to help you make it the best that it can be.

Congratulations to all MHS graduates and good luck in the days that are ahead of you.
