Big first half leads to Midland victory

Football

     Midland won its second straight Eight-player, District 3 game, romping to a 48-6 win at West Central of Maynard Friday, Oct. 4.

     The Eagles (2-2, 4-2) rolled to a 39-0 lead by halftime.

     Alex Smith rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries for Midland. Britan Martens threw for two touchdowns and Carson Hunter passed for one. Catching touchdown passes were Jensen Dodge, Garrett Eubanks and Smith. Sawyer Hansen kicked a 24-yard field goal.

     Defensively, Austin Weinschenk had 4.5 tackles, while Jake Arnell and Kole Michaud made four tackles apiece. Hunter Shoaff and Iziek Soper each had 3.5 tackles and two sacks.

 

Volleyball

     Midland played a pair of Tri-Rivers Conference volleyball matches last week, coming up on the short end both times.

     Included were a 20-25, 15-25, 12-25 home loss to Clinton Prince of Peace Oct. 1; and a 15-25, 10-25, 12-25 defeat at Lisbon Oct. 3.

     In the Prince of Peace match, Midland had three players reach double digits in digs: Ella Rupp with 16, Taylor Bahnsen with 11, and Maisie Paulsen with 10. Hope Soroka had 12 assists. Rupp had seven kills, and Arianna Hacke had six. Brennah Ricketts served 8-for-8 with two aces.

     Bahnsen had 12 digs and served 7-for-7 in the Lisbon match. Soroka also served 7-for-7, and had nine assists and seven digs. Rupp had five kills and seven digs. Allison Paulsen had three kills.
