Body of missing Monticello man located

On Saturday evening, Nov. 23, the Monticello Police Department issued an Operation Quickfind for 67-year-old Jay Hanken of Monticello. 

His family contacted the police on the evening of Nov. 23. They reported their last contact with Hanken was Tuesday, Nov. 19. He was last seen wearing jeans, a brown work coat, tennis shoes and a straw hat. 

Police also stated Hanken had a brain injury, causing some issues. 

The public was asked to call the MPD at 319-465-3526 with any information. 

On Sunday just before 11 a.m., it was reported that Hanken’s body had been found in a stretch of Kitty Creek in Monticello, not far from his home. 

A cause of death has not been reported. Foul play is not suspected. At the direction of the medical examiner, an autopsy will be performed. 

Assisting in the recovery were the Monticello Ambulance Service, Monticello Fire Department, and Monticello Police Department.
