Track and field

The Maquoketa Valley boys track and field team scored 24 points and took 12th place at the Marion Invitational April 30.

The best event for the Wildcats was the 110-meter high hurdles, where Chad Neuzil took fourth place and teammate Brock Hillers was fifth.

Both the Maquoketa Valley boys and girls track teams were scheduled to compete in the Tri-Rivers Conference Meet May 3, but that was postponed to May 7 due to poor weather. Those results will appear in the Express next week.

Golf

Maquoketa Valley sent four golfers to the Tri-Rivers Conference Boys Golf Tournament April 30 at Pin Oak in Manchester.

The Wildcats totaled 484 to finish 13th as a team. Morgan Hermanson led the team with a 57-57–114. Austin Snyder totaled 115, Tony Offerman had 116, and Garrett Lahr shot 139.

“I was pleased with how the guys competed,” Maquoketa Valley coach Tim Andrews said. “Although it does not show it in the team race, these guys have improved a lot.

“We have a couple first-year golfers competing on the varsity level, and with no seniors, we have a lot to look forward to if the guys continue to put in the work like I think they will.”

On May 3, both Wildcat teams competed against North Linn on a rainy day at Three Elms in Independence. MV’s girls won 220 to 257, led by Kelly Winter with a 50. Faith Hunt and Erika Supple each shot 56, and Maddie Lahr had a 58.

The boys lost 178 to 243 despite a 43 from Austin Snyder.
