Bradley dodges stance on gun laws, Measure 1

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

In 2021 town hall, I asked Steve Bradley about sensible gun laws. I asked a follow-up question. After two unanswered questions, he told me that I should silence myself (in other language) and move on. At that point, I never imagined how gun violence would affect me as a new-again resident of Jackson County. I grew up here. In 2018, I came back to start a new business.

The Maquoketa Caves shootings shocked me. Then two weeks ago, another shooting happened. This one, a “dispute between a disgruntled husband and his wife” happened just 5 miles from my home. The victim, Angela Prichard, looked after my dogs at Mississippi Ridge Kennels where she was murdered. She was part of my “village” who enabled me to travel for work. Common-sense gun laws might have prevented the loss of these five lives.

At a recent Farm Bureau candidate forum, Mr. Bradley, Tony’s opponent for the District 66 State Representative seat, categorically stated that he supports the Second Amendment, but made no mention of Measure 1, that would force the courts to preserve the rights of ANY person to own firearms, regardless of their mental state.

After talking to Tony Amsler about these shootings, he offered support and pledged to support for voting NO on Measure 1. I was proud to host Tony’s first campaign event here at One Orange Centre. I, wholeheartedly, without reserve, endorse Tony Amsler in his race to represent all of us in District 66 in the Iowa State House.
