Cal-Wheat, Easton Vallley top Eagles

   Midland showed signs of improvement, but came up short in a pair of Tri-Rivers Conference volleyball matches last week.

   The Eagles (1-26) played at Calamus-Wheatland Sept. 27, and was defeated by scores of 11-25, 9-25, 12-25. Midland totaled 10 kills, including three by Jaden Gatts and two apiece from Anna Bartels, Gracie Franzen and Jayde Martin. Franzen had five assists; Olivia Paulsen and Gracie Harrington had two each. Emerson Huston had nine of the team’s 30 digs. Collecting four digs apiece were Harrington, Martin and Franzen. Sophia Raubs served 8-for-8, and Harrington served 7-for-7 with two aces.

   On Sept. 29, the Eagles played host to Easton Valley and took the RiverHawks to a fourth set before falling 15-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-19. Bartels had eight kills, Gatts had six and Martin had four in that match. Franzen totaled 13 assists, and Paulsen had five. Four Midland players were in double digits in digs: Harrington with 19, Huston with 17, Martin and Franzen with 10 apiece. Isabelle Ricketts and Gatts had four blocks each.

   Harrington served 15-for-15 with two aces. Franzen was 13-for-13, and Huston was 21-for-22. Ricketts served two aces.
