Candidates file for primary election

     The deadline for candidates to file candidacy papers for various county elected offices ended at 5 p.m. on March 22. With that said, Jones County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Whitney Hein released the listing of candidates expected to appear on the June 4, 2024, Primary Election:

County Sheriff

   • Greg Graver, Republican, Scotch Grove

   • No candidates filed to run for the Democratic or Libertarian Parties.

County Auditor

   • Whitney Hein, Republican, Monticello

   • No candidates filed to run for the Democratic or Libertarian Parties.

Board of Supervisors Dist. 1

   • John Schlarmann, Republican, Monticello

   • No candidates filed to run for the Democratic or Libertarian Parties.

Board of Supervisors Dist. 2

   • Joe Oswald, Democrat, Monticello

   • No candidates filed to run for the Republican or Libertarian Parties.

Board of Supervisors Dist. 5

   • Jeff Swisher, Republican, Anamosa

   • Jennifer Karpf, Republican, Anamosa

   • No candidates filed to run for the Democratic or Libertarian Parties.

State Representative Dist. 66

   • Steve Bradley, Republican, Cascade

   Also from the Jones County Elections website, the Jones County Auditor’s Office began accepting absentee ballot request forms on March 26 for the June 4 Primary Election. Ballots will be available to be mailed and vote in-person beginning Wednesday, May 15.

   The last day an absentee ballot may be mailed to a voter for the primary is Monday, May 20. In-person absentee voting in the Auditor’s Office closes at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 3. Requests for absentee ballots must be in writing and should be mailed or delivered to: Jones County Auditor, Rm 113, 500 W. Main St., Anamosa, IA 52205.

   Voted absentee ballots returned by mail must be returned no later than 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, June 4, to be considered on time to be counted. Voters are advised to keep in mind that postal delivery is now two to five days.
